Don Stevens, M.D., one of the founders of Norton Cancer Institute, is a fellowship-trained hematologist/oncologist who earned his medical degree from the University of Louisville School of Medicine, where he also completed his residency. He completed his fellowship at John Hopkins University, Baltimore, Md. and is board certified in internal medicine and medical oncology. Dr. Stevens is passionate about research has led many clinical trials at Norton Healthcare, bringing leading-edge hematology and cancer treatments to Louisville-area patients. In 2017, he was one of only two physicians in the country to enroll patients in a national clinical trial study for a new lymphoma treatment, and in 2020, led studies on convalescent plasma and was the first in the world to test the cancer drug selinexor as treatment for patients with severe cases of COVID-19. He specialized in blood cancers, including leukemia, myeloma and lymphomas and has developed Norton Cancer Institute’s program in cellular treatment for cancers. Dr. Stevens has received numerous awards, including the 2019 Commitment to Compassion award by the Partnership for a Compassionate Louisville and was named one of 2016 Louisville Magazine’s “Top Docs.” In 2020, he was inducted into the Kentucky Society of Clinical Oncology (KYSCO) Hall of Fame.
