Dr. Manos’ journey to a career in Addiction Medicine did not follow a traditional path. Her interest in working with the underserved began as a teen witnessing the hardships endured by her younger brother with mental health disabilities as he navigated fragmented healthcare and education systems unable to adequately meet his needs. The study of the brain became fascinating to her where she pursued a BS in Biology and Psychology with a focus on Neurosciences, which included research, at Duke University. After then obtaining a Masters at Georgetown University in Physiology and Biophysics, she knew that medical school (not research) was her calling. She obtained her MD from the University of NC at Chapel Hill, also completing coursework / research at the neighboring School of Public Health. She then completed Family Medicine residency at Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte NC. She treated patients with suboxone and saw them improve, which left an impression. She later worked in family practice and urgent care for Carolinas Healthcare, now Atrium, but missed working with addiction patients. Personal and professional experiences led her to her passion treating substance abuse at McLeod Addictive Disease Center in 2013 where she was Medical Director for the majority of her 5-year tenure. There she oversaw the largest opioid treatment program in the state, residential, and outpatient services. She accepted a position at Novant Health as Medical Director of Addiction Medicine for the Greater Charlotte Market in June 2019 where she has begun collaborating to use her experience and expertise to create an innovative, patient-centered, comprehensive
