Ripoff for Foreign Currency

I wanted to exchange my $200 US dollars for Canadian. Right away, they took a $18.50 convenience fee (10%) and only exchanged $181.50 of it. They told me they were giving me a 1.1 exchange rate. Given that the US dollar is more valuable than the Canadian dollar, that means I should have received $199 CAD in order to have the same purchasing power as $181.5 USD. Instead they gave me $165 CAD. In other words, they exchanged in the wrong direction. I came in with $200 USD of purchasing power, and walked out with $150 USD of purchasing power. They refused to admit that this was a totally outrageous misrepresentation of the exchange rate. I have since learned that it is a much better idea to just take money out of an ATM when you arrive in a foreign country. They give you something very close to the international exchange rate and charge a much smaller fee (closer to $2 than $20). I can't believe the dishonesty and total lack of remorse shown by this store, and I will never use it again.

Great Customer Service

I have been a customer for years, and the staff at Libertyville Currency Exchange has always made things painless. When I purchased a car from a friend of mine, they took care of all the paperwork for the Secretary of State and had my plates in ready fast. Best of all, I didn't have to wait in a long line at the DMV. I would highly recommend them!
