I really want to love this business. I do. They are a small, family-owned nursery with a really friendly staff. The owners seem to have great knowledge with an Old World feel.

So where is the problem? Well, the problem is that they will sell you whatever they can, tell you whatever you want to hear, be it truth or lie.

A few years ago, I came in looking for a red bud tree. They had just received a new shipment that was stored out in their parking lot. Because at that time, I knew nothing about picking out a tree, I trusted that they could help me choose the best one and the best type for my intended location, which has full, HOT, afternoon sun.

Forest Pansy Red Bud is what they chose. Also, the employee looked through all of the trees and picked one out for me. They were all lying on their sides in the root balls and it was difficult for me to see just what the tree would look like standing up. But I trusted they would be honorable in picking one out for me.

Turns out, that employee chose the absolute WORST possible tree. She chose the bottom of the barrel...I would guess simply to get rid of the one they knew they wouldn't be able to sell. I had no idea. I was ignorant when it came to picking out a new tree.

They told me they'd plant the tree and stake the new tree for me. They gave me a price and we agreed to it.

When they showed up with the tree, it was arched forward with NO BRANCHES in the back. I looked as though the tree had been grown flat on the ground so the branches all grew forward. Not a single branch in the back. From the side, it looked absolutely crooked and ridiculous. This was THE BEST TREE...or so the employee lied to get rid of something awful.

In that first year, 2012 when the heat of the summer was incredibly hot, we noticed the leaves looked scorched. We watered it appropriately yet its leaves kept burning.

After doing research, I learned this tree is not intended for direct sun and certainly not in the direct sun of the hot afternoon days.

UGH. I told them where I intended to plant this and that same unscrupulous employee who picked out the tree for me said this tree was perfect in that spot.

Needless to say, I cannot endorse such a dishonorable and dishonest business. They only care about money, not the plants nor their customers' happiness. I would not recommend this nursery to my worst enemies. I have more respect for them than that.

Look elsewhere if you want quality plants and a truly honest staff. Springtime Nursery is not it.
