The Displaced Homemaker Program includes work readiness assistance for individuals who lose their primary source of income due to job lay-off, divorce, disability and underemployment. It offers assistance in the areas of personality assessment, job placement and retention, training, and career and budget counseling. The program conducts various workshops on life skills development and job search. The Displaced Homemaker Program is administered by HELP of Southern Nevada, which is an agency that provides a range of services related to food, clothing, shelter, gasoline and utility assistance for individuals and families. Founded in 1970, HELP of Southern Nevada operates the Center for Independent Living, which offers substance abuse counseling, mental health referral, educational assessment and vocational training services for youths.
