I came in for color correction...

COLOR CORRECTION DIDN'T GO WELL

I do my own color due to the inability to find anyone fantastic in Havasu to do color (please, if you're out there, contact me!). I accidentally applied the wrong color to my roots due to being handed the wrong color from the person I purchased the color from. I use 8RB. I was given 6RC. I didn't notice it was the wrong color and ended up with very red roots on dark reddish blonde hair. The object was to remove some of the bright red and match the rest of the hair to the roots. Hannah was my stylist at Jacyln's. She is very young (in her 20's).

Hannah was able to remove about 20% of the brightness of the red. Then a permanent color was applied to the rest of my long hair to match the new red roots. After almost 5 hours and $150 (+ tip), the following were the results:

• Stained clothing from the new, very red hair color not being fully rinsed out of my hair. I left the salon with wet hair that ultimately ran color all over my tank top, shorts, and seat cover in my vehicle. When I got home and saw the stains on my tank top I got into the shower where I shampooed my hair at least 7 times to thoroughly rinse the color out.

• Flaming dark red hair (the salon lighting is deceptive and I had no idea the color was so obnoxiously bright until I got into my car and saw my hair in the sunlight in the side-view mirror).

• Patchy spots in the back of my hair where the color was just flat-out missed.

• A visible line where the roots that I messed up on and my blonde-now-colored-red met. The colors were not perfectly matched and the root line was clearly visible in the sun (not noticeable in the salon).

Also, I was hoping to receive a trim on the ends. When Hannah picked up her scissors to begin the trim, I had to stop her and ask if she was planning on thoroughly combing through my wet hair first. She only quickly combed through the ends but didn't comb through the top or sides. I've been coloring and cutting my hair for 30 years now; in all this time I have never had someone attempt to cut my hair without combing it out, roots to ends, before the cut. I don't know how you can do a straight cut if you don't comb the hair out. Needless to say, I didn't allow her to cut my hair.

When I arrived home, I texted her with the issues I discovered and she 'agreed' to refund me $50 out of the $150 I paid. Awesome. However, a professional stylist who stands behind her work (and herself) will always refund 100% if she has an unhappy client.

I went to my old stylist in California the next day for additional color correction to remove the flame factor of the red. It was then I learned of the missed patches in the back of my head where the blonde was not covered. An additional $85 later and I've got great (albeit a bit dark for me) reddish brown, even hair color, including a trim, blow out and style.

If questioning the salon staff, they will tell you I was happy with the color when I left. However, I was not aware of the true color until I was outside and had driven away. I was not aware that the roots didn't match the rest of the color until I was outside and had driven away. I was not aware that the color was not thoroughly rinsed out of my hair until I got home and saw the stains on my clothes. And I was not aware of the patches missed in the back until my California stylist brought it to my attention.

Buyer Beware: Hannah's charge of $50 per hour (her quote to me) is outrageous for her lack of experience. Hannah's refusal to refund me at least half of what I spent shows her lack of professionalism. She will be a great stylist one day, but she needs much more experience before tackling color correction. And she needs to be taught that a stylist never, ever cuts hair without thoroughly combing through it first.
