Somer was born and raised in Lake Charles, Louisiana, where she earned her Bachelor of Arts in English, summa cum laude, from McNeese State University in 2001. She attended law school at Baylor University in Waco, Texas, where she earned her Juris Doctorate in 2004, magna cum laude. During law school, Somer was active in moot court, earning top oralist honors in numerous competitions, and was also the Administrative and Texas Procedure Editor for the Baylor Law Review. While in law school, she also completed a federal judicial externship for the Honorable Walter Smith. Somer began her law practice in Houston, Texas, where she successfully handled oil and gas disputes, including both landowner royalty claims and claims involving drilling and production. While in Houston, she also gained experience in the fields of first party health insurance and employment. Somer moved back to Lake Charles in 2007, where she continued to practice in the fields of employer- and employee-side labor and employment disputes and both first and third party insurance. Somer joined Cox, Cox, Filo, Camel & Wilson in July 2012, where her practice focuses on employee and union side labor and employment disputes, as well as personal injury. She is a member of the Louisiana and Texas Bars, the Federal Fifth Circuit Bar, the Southwest Louisiana Bar Association, and the Junior League of Lake Charles.
