DON'T TRY TO QUIT THIS GYM!

I'm not alone - check out Yahoo and the BBB website! I joined in January 2008, stopped going in February. Called in October to cancel, due to the cost and the fact I wasn't going, and was told it would cost me $150 to cancel prior to the end of my contract on January 13, 2009. So I decided to wait until the end of my contract. I called again in December to confirm when I could cancel, and was again told January 13th. On January 5th I noticed I was charge over double my monthly fee. When I called to asked about it, I was told about the $59 annual fee (which no one mentioned when I called in October and December!). The girl told me I could come fill out the cancellation paperwork any time (again, no one mentioned this to me before) and I would have to talk to "corporate" about any refund, though it would be unlikely. Corporate?! They have TWO locations! Three, if you count the co-ed. Come on! Heather from corporate says the fee is in my contract, so can't be refunded, but they can put a freeze on my account so I can start it back up again when financially able, since I already paid the fee. Gee, thanks Heather. I called to try to reason with her...what's $59 to her when they've made over $500 pure profit from my membership? I asked her if sticking to "the contract" and that $59 was more important than showing some decent customer service. Well, apparently, it is. So, I'm disputing the charge with my bank, I've filed a complaint with the BBB, and I intend to campaign against them whenever and wherever possible.
