Neremiah Castao, MS, APRN, is a clinical nurse specialist and certified adult nurse practitioner (ANP-C) who specializes in treating prostate cancer as well as a wide range of urologic conditions, including bladder cancer, kidney cancer, benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH), erectile dysfunction, lower urinary tract symptoms, and urinary tract infections. In treating urologic cancers, his approach emphasizes long-term survivorship care, wellness and education. Prior to joining UC San Diego Health in 2011, Castao worked as a urologic oncology surgery nurse practitioner for Scripps Health and as an adult- geriatric nurse practitioner in a family practice community clinic in San Diego. He has over 14 years of nursing experience providing direct patient care to patients and their families, as well as over 13 years in various leadership positions as a commissioned naval officer in the United States Navy (both active and currently active reserve at Naval Medical Center San Diego).Castao earned a Master of Science with concentrations in advanced practice nursing of adults and the elderly, and a bachelor's degree with distinction honors in nursing from San Diego State University School of Nursing. He is a member of various nursing organizations, including the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners, the California Association for Nurse Practitioners, and Sigma Theta Tau International Nursing Honor Society.Outside of work, Castao enjoys spending time with his wife and their two boys, international travel, triathlons, and surfing. He speaks conversational Tagalog and Spanish.
