Januario E. Castro, MD, is a board-certified medical oncologist who specializes in treating a variety of blood cancers, including lymphoma and leukemia. His areas of expertise include translational research and early therapy development applied to leukemia and lymphoma with emphasis in cellular-stem cell therapy and gene immunotherapy. As a professor in the Department of Medicine, Dr. Castro instructs medical students, residents and fellows at UC San Diego School of Medicine. His research focuses on gene immunotherapy applied to chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL) and non Hodgkin-lymphoma (NHL). Dr. Castro completed a fellowship in hematology-oncology at UC San Diego School of Medicine and a residency in internal medicine at University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine. He earned his medical degree from the Industrial University of Santander in Columbia. He is board-certified in medical oncology.
