Deborah Kado, MD, is a board-certified internal medicine doctor who specializes in caring for the elderly. Specifically, Dr. Kado's expertise is in evaluating and treating osteoporosis. She directs the https://health.ucsd.edu/specialties/endo/osteoporosis/Pages/default.aspx at UC San Diego Health and sees patients in the Endocrinology outpatient clinic in La Jolla. As a professor in the Department of Family Medicine and Public Health, Dr. Kado instructs medical students, residents and fellows. Her primary research interests are in understanding the pathogenesis and adverse health outcomes associated with age-related changes in spinal posture. She is a successfully funded National Institutes of Health (NIH) researcher and is an internationally recognized expert in her field.Prior to joining joining UC San Diego Health in 2012, Dr. Kado served on faculty at UCLA David Geffen School of Medicine in the Division of Geriatrics at the Department of Medicine and the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery.She completed fellowship training in geriatric and osteoporosis clinical research at UCSF, a fellowship in geriatric medicine at UCLA School of Medicine, UCLA Medical Center, and a residency in internal medicine at Harbor-UCLA Medical Center. Dr. Kado earned her medical degree from Weill Cornell Medical College and holds a master's of science degree in epidemiology from UCLA School of Public Health.
