Our restaurant got its start in 1968 when Bunt King came home and announced to his wife Helen that he had found the perfect location for a steak house. Much discussion of the pros and cons of opening a family restaurant filled their home until the decision to take the chance was finally made. Ye Olde Steak House began when friends and family pulled together to help create a friendly, rustic, down-home atmosphere that still exists today. Over four decades, Ye Olde Steak House is still owned and operated by the King family. Bunt passed away in 1987, and Helen in 2003; now their three children - Nancy, Cheryl, and David continue with the family tradition. Even some of the grandchildren help out when possible. More than forty years, serving the best Iowa grain-fed beef has been customary. Thanks to our wonderful customers, a dream has become reality. We appreciate our customers, both new and old, and hope to serve 'steaks cooked to perfection' for many years to come. In November 2002, our building sustained damage as a result of fire. We temporarily moved to the L&N railroad station. We reopened this building on September 9, 2004. Thanks to our wonderful customers, we are back in business serving you.

I have eaten here several times in the last couple of months and the hamburgers are huge and the steaks will melt in your mouth. The desserts are also amazing.

really good

If you want a "real" steak, this is the place to go. All the food and service was great, it can be pricey but worth every penny.

Horrible experience. I will NE...

Horrible experience. I will NEVER be back. We went for a Valentine's Day date a few days later and after hearing so much about it we were so excited. When we parked there was a downhill walk in the dark to the restaurant located on a very busy highway. Nearly nothing separates you from 55mph cars. When we walked in we were completely ignored. Literally. The hostess was maybe 14 years old and in blue jeans and a t-shirt. She completely ignored us. The restaurant is cramped beyond comfortable. Finally a bus boy sat us. Yes, a bus boy. The place just looks dirty, too. It took forever to get a waitress. Finally she shows up and very unhappily gets our drink order. We ordered water because we weren't exactly thrilled by paying $2.19 for a CAN OF COKE. The menu is short. Very short with limited sides. We barely saw or waitress. We shared a steak because the portions were ridiculous. And they also charge you to split a meal there. Finally we got our food and it was mediocre at best. An utter disappointment. The rolls were microwaved and looked just like the sister schubert's rolls I have in my freezer. I left feeling so let down and angry. I hope no one else makes the same mistake of visiting that horrible place!
