I took a big white vicious bunny (dumped roadside) in for spaying upon Dr. Carter"s recommend. Dr. Boutette called to warn me of a bleeder vein (full estrous). Next morning wasn't good. They gave her subcutaneous fluids and spent a great deal of time teaching me how to give her meds and formula - at no addit'l chrg. She is now our sweet and spoiled house bunny. Today, I got a call about a wild bunny hit by a car laying on hot pavement in the sun. 2 hrs later, found he had dragged himself down a flight of cement stairs. While Eastside Avian & Exotic was busy, they diagnosed a badly broken back. Instead of asking me for money, they thanked me for bringing him in, gave him a sedative, and humanely put him down so not to suffer any longer. They truly cared and treated the bunny with respect. It was generous (and healing for bleary me). We have a 25 yr old African Grey parrot, whom we love to no end. I fully trust this vet and can't rave enough about their care and expertise.

Knows way more than just birds!

I have a tropical fish tank that has live corals and I found that my tank was infected with a parasite that was attacking the corals. I did some research online and found some medicine (happens to normally be used to treat heart worms in dogs) that would safely remove the parasites in my tank. I called all over to try and get a prescription and no vet, not even the one I take my dogs to, would prescribe the medicine to me. Half the time the staff at these other clinics couldn't wrap their head around the fact that this was for my fish tank and not for my dog, and the other half seemed worried that prescribing this could somehow get them into trouble. I finally decided to try a different route and contact an exotic animal vet. The staff at Eastside Avian & Exotic Animal Medical Center listened carefully as I explained my problem and were very willing to help. This form of treatment wasn’t easy to find even on the internet, so I was amazed that Dr. Johnson-Delaney knew exactly what I was talking about and agreed to write me a prescription. Unfortunately this specific medicine wasn't being carried by any of the local vets, so I needed to purchase it online, which required the staff to do additional work to get the prescription ordered on my behalf. When all was said and done, Dr. Johnson-Delaney refused to accept any payment for her help. It was clear to me that she truly loves her job and helping animals.
