When looking for a place for my 8 year olds birthday party I looked everywhere, I read as many reviews as I could. I price compared and had to consider the age group more now than in the past.



Niether myself nor my wife had been there before and we hadn't been to a skaing rink since the early 80's when it was the IN thing to do. The lack of reviews for any skate center made this decision a little nerve racking as we didn't know what to expect.



We were able to find 1 negative review but felt that the person who wrote that review had to have no concept of what a skating rink was or demanded/expected something that was illogical considering the amount that Mason Road charges for their birthday parties.



1. When setting up a party at a skate center don't expect that it was built within the last 5 years. It's a skate center, something that is popular but not as popular as it used to be. We view Mason Road Skate Center as Retro design. It's a flash back in design with upgrades/remodels to maintain a clean, safe and fun place to go.

2. Ease of setup; Call, pick a date and time and they basically do the rest. All you need to bring is a cake and the party people.

3. Friendlyness of the staff. Everyone there was extremely friendly and helpfull, including Janet (who I believe is the owner). They tell you what the party package includes and they produce. Refreshing!

4. Fun for all kids, even those that have never skated before. The wrink itself is in good shape, the music played is no different that what you hear on local radio stations and if they can't skate you can rent a skate walker that they support themselves with while rolling around. Simple and effective.

5. PRICE: they have (hands down) some of the best package rates considering what all they provide. skates include, food included, drink include, decoration included and I'm sure I'm missing a few other things. The amount they charge would not even get you in the door of many places and is more likely to be the deposit for others.

6. We didn't expect it and were fine with it, so don't expect a seperate private party room. They reserve a table for your party and do a very simple layout for the party. Don't expect table covers, if you must have one, bring one. I understand why they don't provide them, it becomes something for the kids to grab onto if they get unstable or are about to fall down. Remember the kids are on skates so don't be suprised if someone pulls everything off the table when they loose their footing. Don't expect a choice of themes to choose from, again if you want that bring that. My child didn't care and from the looks of the other kids the didn't care either. I thnk that is more of a parent issue anyways. The food is good and the kids liked it, NO it's not Brother pizza or Fuzzies pizza but it is pretty good nevertheless. Again something I don't think the kids even pay attention to.



Bottom line is this was a nice change and not another bounce around place or over priced place who does birthdays on the side. Highly recommend it, just be realistic of what to expect and if you want more then either ask or ask if you can bring it. I have no doubt they would be happy to accomodate.



Couple of other quick notes:

1. This isn't a private party so there are other kids and families there. If you prefer less people then pick an earlier time.

2. Did I mention you also get a hostess/waitress who helps during the party. She can keep you on a strict schedule or you can just wing it on when to do what. As long as you don't go over your time.

3. Shocking as it may seem but yes you the parents MAY have to do some things yourself. You have a hostess but she's only human. If you need napkins, cups or whatever, please get up and get it. Don't complain! Last I checked this is Katy not Beverly Hills.
