If a zero star was available this company deserves it! They were to repair the flashing on my chimney and did not! They did a quick unacceptable job which a company I hired to correct the work Parchment did said the work was so substandard I would have had serious water leakage in the spring. This company is unscrupulous and is not to be trusted.

We used them for some masonry repairs back in September that needed to be done before we sold our house. They provided us with the best quote from 4 different local companies and then when they arrived to do the work they were very knowledgeable and friendly. The liner we were having installed in the chimney came with a rain cap, so they approached me and said they would be taking $50 off the original quote for the rain cap. That's just simple honesty. We just had them out again at the new house to inspect the fireplace/chimney and see if it needed to be cleaned before we had a fire this year. Mr. Hansen came out the same day to do the inspection. I broke the damper when I was trying to open and close it, just knocked it off it's track - they fit us into their schedule (I'm assuming on their lunch break) to come over fix it for me that same day, did the repairs on the damper very quickly and I should mention, left everything so clean. This is a family owned/ran business and I can't say enough how much I recommend them. I don't usually write reviews, but when I saw the negative ones on this site, I couldn't let people think this was a bad company to work with.

They showed up to do my chimney sweep/clean for my woodstove and the guy made it so obvious that he did not want to do the work. He went out to his truck a couple of times and finally came in with his "revised" quote. I was originally quoted it would be one price and when he showed up and decided he didn't want to do the work, raised the price by 100.00 dollars plus materials. What a joke!! Horrible customer service and not true to quotes. I wouldn't even give them one star if zero was available. Call anyone else!!!

*** UPDATED 3/6/2015 -- Today I finally received my original deposit back from Mr. Hansen. I believe he was finally motivated to return my deposit after the Better Business Bureau contacted him and ultimately lowered the ranking of Parchment Chimney based on his lack of response. Since he has finally returned my money, I've increased my rating from one to two stars... but I'm also going to leave my original complaint here for others to read so that they can be forewarned about what they might have to go through.

In April 2014, I got an estimate from Mark Hansen, owner of Parchment Chimney Service, for $1000 of work on my chimney, and in June 2014, I signed a contract for him to do the work and put down a $250 deposit towards the work. At that point in time, he said that he would be able to get to my chimney in July.



From July through October, I kept calling to get estimates of when he'd be able to come. He didn't returned my messages and when he happened to actually pick up, he'd always say he'd get to me in 2-3 weeks more.



Finally, in November I sent a certified letter requesting the refund of my deposit since it was now too cold to do the work. He finally called me and agreed to send the deposit BUT it is February and still no deposit has been returned.



Mr. Hansen seems like a nice man but I believe that his business is financially underwater right now and that he can not be trusted to do the work that he used to have a reputation for doing well.

Came to fix the crack in my chimney but sealed two squirrels in the chimney. Asked them to come get them out and said it wasn't their problem. So they have died somewhere in there and we can't get to them....and it stinks. Animal control says we need to call for a chimney sweep. What a joke. Definitely would call another place!
