Aren't all customers good?

I've been a customer of Tigers/State Beauty Supply Store in Jefferson City since 1982. I consider myself a "good customer" - averaging approximately $1000 a year in sales. I'd say that is not bad. That is more than we spend at ..say a local restaurant in a year (one I would consider myself a "good customer" to) . Although I do not daily practice my license in a salon, I do keep my license up because I can purchase quality hair products at whole sale prices. My long term goal is to one day retire and volunteer in a nursing home giving people dignity through clean, neatly kept and updated hair “doos”. I also purchase hair products, nail color etc., for family and friends. This creates about a 3-4 times a year stop at State Beauty Supply store (which totals between 2-4 hundred dollar per stop). I stopped by today, list in hand and spent about 20 minutes with a wonderful sales lady gathering my products. As she was ringing my purchases, Jess (the store manager) came in from lunch, proceeded in quick order by another woman who we will from hence forth call the "good customer". Jess proceeds to gather retail from the counter, steps in front of my lady, cancels what we are working on, rings up the "good customer" all the while the "gc" continues to shop. Finally, the "gc" walks over and Jess rings her out. I'm dumbfounded this is happening to me but I wait until "gc" walks out and I say to Jess "I'm really offended you just did that to me". Jess shrugs her shoulders looks at me and says "she was a good customer" I said (ALL the while thinking “what am I chopped liver?”) "that shouldn't matter" She laughed at me, snickered and then said, "I can't believe that would upset you - I've never seen you in here before, how often do you come in?" I said, "that shouldn't matter” She said, "she comes in all the time, I've worked here since November and I don't think I've seen you once - you work in a salon around here?" The whole time she is just laughing and mocking me and I am dumbfounded that I am even having this conversation with this person...she then proceeds to say (all the while literally snickering at me) "I can't believe you are that upset over nothing - I hope you day gets better - Gawd bless you" - and that is when I really lost it....God bless you?? And what do you think my little sweet sales lady is doing - she looks at me like she can’t believe this is happening and proceeds to walk out with me, apologizing for Jess. I did call the owner and he was nice enough - but of course it is his employee’s word over mine. I told him I really wished there was a camera so he could witness what I had gone through - he said there was and he would watch it. I'll not go back...no brand of shampoo is that important to me. She thought I wasn't worth saving as a customer - it was more important to her to make "gc" feel important. What I really wanted to tell her is that I work at a Church with over 2000 members and that daily I find ways to make each and every member feel valued, appreciated and affirmed in who they are. I believe every “customer” is good. I teach never to humiliate or belittle. I went o Kohl’s and Schulte’s later that day. Both times I was met with extremely friendly and helpful staff. It may not be tomorrow or even next week that I will return to Kohl’s or Schultes – but you can be sure I’ll go back. I consider myself a “good customer” at both of these places and more importantly – so do they.
