Illinois School for the Visually Impaired, also known as ISVI, is an educational institution that serves more than 25,000 visually impaired individuals. The school occupies more than 18 acres of space. It provides a range of academic and enrichment activities for children from birth up to the age of 21. Illinois School for the Visually Impaired s academic curriculum focuses on the development of independence and vocational skills. In addition, the school hosts sessions in Braille instruction, daily living skills, orientation and mobility training, and assistive technology. It also offers a variety of extracurricular and dormitory activities, such as cheerleading, swimming, wrestling, and field and track. Illinois School for the Visually Impaired provides membership options for student council and choir club. The school is operated by the Illinois Department of Human Services and is accredited by the North central Association.
