Each week something has gone u...

Each week something has gone up in the price of almost everything they sell that I buy on a regular basis; and, most times not just a few cents, but from 1 to 2 dollars or so in some instances.

Their ground beef is no longer reddish in color but pale pink and white. Pinkish with white gristle and fat and the cost for this same grade of ground beef was once less than 2.00 a pound, went up to 2.99 a pound, but is now selling at close to 5.00 a pound and on the days they have this sorry grade of beef on sale, it's between 2.99 to 3.69 or so per pound for the same old pink and white gristly product. I wonder if they are adding to their ground beef those nasty, ammonia washed, pink slime fillers usually used in dog food, that has been reported from ABC News and the Internet? No one will answer the question firmly and they've gotten very nasty with me when I've tried to find out if they do. They are nasty over the phone even at the so-called corporate headquarters. The Deli people rarely wear gloves. When they do they do so without washing their hands first, after doing clean-up details, take out or fooling around in the back of the deli. They don't wear hair nets, serve food with unwashed hands, wipe their faces, including their mouths, eyes, ears, and noses, after scratching on their bodies itch, never go near the sink to wash their hands. They are nasty. Ater watching them do their nasty deeds, they have the nerve to ask the customer "Can I help you?" I let them go ahead and slice the meat, then when they hand it to me I tell them "Never mind because you've handled this without washing your hands." Even when they do wear gloves they use their gloved hands the same nasty way, won't change them, wash their hands, then put on fresh gloves. I've spoken to management more than once about this but they never change. Nastiness is inbred and there is nothing that can be done about nasty people.

They closed down all of their SaveRite stores that although owned by Winn Dixie, had fresher, better looking meat than Winn Dixie, and the prices for everything in SaveRite was always cheaper, up to 3 or 4 dollars cheaper than the same items in Winn Dixie.

Bait & Switch Tactics: Food on regular price (example) may cost, say $2.99 a pound, then, when it goes on sale in the Buy One Get One Free promotion, that same item will be marked up to (say) $5.29 per pound, so now you're paying in the neighborhood of $2.30 more per pound for that same $2.99 item when it goes on sale. Watch. See for yourself. Start noticing what the general price is for the foods you purchase on a regular enough frequency to know what the usual prices are, then when any of those items go on the BOGO Free promotion, the price of the items miraculously becomes close to twice as much as it was before the promotion. Plus, popular items will sometimes be sold out the first day of the sale and customers aren't given the courtesy of a rain check. They'll tell you, "The sale doesn't end until next week, so you'll need to come back tomorrow or Friday or Monday" or whatever, saying, "We should be getting another delivery in by then." Baby back ribs went on sale one Wednesday before our last football game here in Jacksonville, for an unprecedented amount of $1.99 a pound (1990s prices I'm guessing) but sold out the same day the sale began. People were told they could not get rain checks.

Winn Dixie seems to feel they are the "Big Dogs" is town now that Food Lion went totally out of business, they put their own stores, SaveRite out of business and now have less competition. Better wake up!
