Everyone here has been very helpful, courteous and understanding with my questions and concerns for my dog and our elderly cat. They have been extremely compassionate toward our dog as she is a rescue and very skittish. Thank you all for your kindness and care.

I have been going to Herschel animal Hospital for quite a while now I had never read reviews but was trying to find prices for annual shots & ran across them I do not recognize my hospital from some of these reviews ,this is not the hospital I have been going to all these years, I have a little Chihuahua that is a little overweight & while there is usually s wait to see Dr. room is usually full of other animal lovers so time goes very fast. I would not say staff is overly friendly but are good at their jobs & animal is well taken care of, the main thing people should remember is these Drs. are your pets Dr. & that is who needs the service not you. I am so glad Dr. Plant did not leave ,very caring vet.

Horrible

Those that work in this clinic have the poorest customer service skills I have ever witnessed in my entire life. Yes, there's a wait, & yes, the fees are lower... However, you get what you pay for!

My vet, who I love, wanted a lot more money than I could afford to get my dachshund spayed & her rear dew claws removed. My mother-in-law recommended this clinic, so I scheduled an appointment. After the surgery was completed, I witnessed my dachshund using her long body to reach around her "e-collar" & pull at the stitches on her rear legs. The stubborn girl removed one from her left leg & was working on removing the stitch on her right leg before I could stop her.

We live in Arlington, but I immediately rushed over to the clinic to have her checked out. The stitch she removed from her left leg was replaced with a staple.

Thinking that the collar provided by the clinic was not adequate, I purchased another collar from a pet store. This longer collar, however, had still not deterred my puppy. She not only got around this new, longer collar... She had also ripped out the staple!

I rushed her back to the clinic again. However, I took the collar off & left it at home because I couldn't drive & hold her while wearing it as the collar was just too long & intrusive.

Upon arrival, I explained the situation to, what I'm assuming was the vet & a technician. I'm not sure because they didn't even bother to introduce themselves to me. The visit entailed having two staples placed on her left leg. When the two women took my puppy out of the room to administer the procedure, I heard one of them say, "I can guarantee you she's not keeping the collar on this dog!"

I was enraged that they not only spoke so inappropriately about a customer, but that they had the audacity to do so knowing that I could hear them.

Upon returning with my puppy, the technician did not enter the room... Only the vet. She began to berate me as to why I had not brought the collar with me & that she needed to see the collar. She more than intimated what she & her colleague had accused me of on the other side of the door. I told her that my puppy is spoiled... I will not dispute that. I would not, however, do anything that would impede her progress to becoming well. I also advised that I'd heard the comments that were made & I did not appreciate what was said... I concluded that if they were going to display such a lack of professionalism, they could at least have the decency to lower their voice.

After her constant attempts to interrupt me were over, she had the audacity to say to me that she did not make the comment, so I owed her an apology!!! Seriously?!? I laughed because I could not believe what was coming out of this woman's mouth!!! Just when I thought she'd already hit an all-time low on the ethics ladder, she dug down & managed to, proudly, strike even further.

Needless to say... I do not care if my sweet puppy was ill & this was the last animal clinic on earth!!! I will NEVER return to that clinic again & neither should you!!! It's not worth it!!!

Horrible!!!

I took my puppy here for vaccines and even though it was cheap, the doctor never even looked at my dog. Then, last week, he was sick and I took him back here and they said he had Parvo, even though he had his shots done there and boosters!!!! They then told me I needed to go to a 'REAL VET' to get him treatment!!!!!!!!!! I though they were a real vet!! I don't care how much money I can save, I will never set foot in that horrible place again!!!

Best ever!

We have been going to Dr.Plant for 30 years now, and he is the best in the world. He truly cares about the animals, you couldn't ask for a more caring person. He never charges an arm and a leg to see and treat your pet.

only good for shots and meds

Super cheap, so we need them in Jacksonville..they surve people who could never afford to pay a normal vet..but if you love your pet, don't use them for any life saving events or surgery..

Thank you Herschel!

I absolutely love my dog so you can imagine my heartbreak when I discovered a cyst on my Rosey. A friend of mine suggested Herschel because she had gone there for years and was never disappointed. Took Rosey in- yes I had to wait but it was worth every minute. The Dr. was knowledgeable and kind, the meds were affordable, and within no time my Rosey was back to her old self again! Just a point to remember- I took her there about a year ago and at that time they did not take debit cards so I had to leave and go to a teller- and I don't know whether that has changed or not, but in any case these kind people are making it affordable in this hard economy to give our pets the attention they need- and deserve!

Better than the rest

I have been visting Herschel Animal Clinic for over 16yrs. I have taken dogs and cats to this place. There is no fluff here, but they know what there doing and treat the animals and you with great respect. A long time ago a Jacksonville woman left all her money to this clinic on the promise that they would keep it affordable and to just take good care of the pets they see. This place has even seen horses. If you have a animal that might need surgery they may refer to you somone else as they do not have all the equipment needed (they work on a tight budget). This is the place to go if you really care about your pest and not helping that other vet pay for his new Jag. There is always a line and it is a first come first service. They have always helped us out and they can help you out too.

They don't pay attention!

I took my other dog here just for yearly shots and never had a problem. (I used another vet for problem visits and surgeries.) After getting my new 12 week old puppy from the breeder, I took her here for a well check up and her 12 wk shots. They did not do an exam, the simply came in and gave her the shot and left. Took 30 seconds. When I was paying the bill and asking for her heartworm medecine they told me to take her in the back and weigh her then tell them what weight range she was in. I decided to give them the benfit of the doubt because it was a busy day so I brought her back for her 15 wk shots, but they told me she was already done. I asked what they meant, I thought she needed shots at 15 wks as well. They looked at the chart from the previous visit and said that they had already given her the 15 wk shots accidentally at her 12 wk visit. They said they probably wouldn't be effective that young so they gave her the shots again at no charge.

I'M SORRY, but giving me a free round of shots does not make me feel good about my vet! I WILL NEVER GO BACK!

you've got to be kidding me..

this is probably the worst animal hospital in all of jacksonville. if you want cheap vaccines (and not in the inexpensive sense), and to wait for hours to see the doctor for all of 2 minutes.. then be my guest. this is NOT a good place to take sick pets, or pets for any kind of surgery. they diagnose your pet without doing ANY kind of tests what-so-ever. if you care about your pet.. you'll find someone else to take them to. you get what you pay for!!! remember that..

how are they still in business?

If you love your pet dont go here. It's not about the money and its not about the medicine either. They recommended my dog be put to sleep because of heartworm disease and never offered a treatment. (This is very treatable and cureable)

Affordable, dependable

I was very pleased with the service and care given to Penelope, our kitten at this clinic. I am a graduate student and cannot afford the outrageous prices that are charged at most vets these days. I would recommend to anyone interested in affordability and dependability.

Herschel Animal Clinic

This clinic does outstanding work and it's not "all about money". The employees are great with the animals, the work done was excellent and the price was more than fair.
