A friend of the family had pre-paid/arranged his funeral with Hewell and Sons. Fast forward over 10 years and he passed. I was his POA and caregiver his last years. When contacting Hewell's in advanced of friend's passing they gave limited helpful information. I referred from location to location trying to discover who I should speak with. Later when attempting to execute said arrangements, the employee I dealt with was inexperienced and non professional. He was unfamiliar with arranging a military honor presence despite there being 4 military bases in town and a high concentration of veterans in the area. 3 bases are of the same branch the deceased served in. The pre-arranged plans fell apart and I was compelled to buy a niche at a cost of 1350. instead of him being inurned with his wife as was planned a decade earlier. Without my consent calls were made to the in-laws that led them to think we were demanding one of their as yet unused plots. This was an uneeded emotional burden for a nonagenarian in-law as well as causing stress for family members on both sides. This was stressful as well for myself while trying to re-arrange a pre-arranged funeral on the fly while 500 miles from home with young children, knowing friends and family of the deceased were traveling for the service also. I wondered until the last moment if it would indeed happen. The service was set up next to the bell tower with carillon and scheduled at the same time the carillon plays. The priest saw no need to wait so our ears were blasted with hymns being broadcasted while we watched the priest move his lips.
