Since 1905, four generations of Shapiros have been making quality meals for our family and friends in the United States, buying vegetables from our Italian neighbors; sugar and beans from Needham Hurst, now NKHurst Beans, when they first opened in 1938; and corned beef from Sam & Emil in Chicago, otherwise known as Vienna Beef. Relationships in business turned into friendships. The quality of what we cook is equal to the integrity of being true to our word. A gentleman’s handshake. The best of the best. Took native New York City friends to Shapiros and they RAVED about the food. They couldn't believe the huge amounts of food for the price and they went back on their own for the next 2 days they were in town. I have lived in Indianapolis all my life and grew up going to this family owned oevr a century in existance Deli. I have never had anyhting but a wonderful mealt there. From awesome corned beef and pastrami samdwiches to lentel soup to wonderful pie and cake, they have it all! If anyone does complain about something, the staff and owner come to aid and make it up in any way they can. Always freindly and helpful. Whether take out or eat in at the cafeteria line, it will always be crowded at mealtime, but the wait is worth it!

Tiny Chef Salad

Horrible, tiny chef salad - pre-packaged (use by end of day Monday sticker on the top) served with individually packaged Kraft blue cheese dressing (that I can get at any Kroger's). The egg tasted like it was keep in the cooler too long - very tasteless and over-cooked. The meat & cheese tasted like Kroger's deli, too. Actually, with the exception of the Swiss cheese - it wasn't as good as Kroger's. And for this I paid over $11?

Awesome delicatessen, Kosher meats sliced fresh and hot. Great home made desserts! A must stop if you are in the Indianapolis area.
