I had the unfortunate and disastrous experience of getting my hair braided in Senegalese twists at this shop. The owner was present when I expressed my desire to have twists that are a bit bigger and she proceeded to explain how that size of twists won't last as long, maybe 2-3 weeks. I didn't believe her because I have seen many Black women rock medium to large Senegalese twists and I highly doubt they paid such a huge price for braids that don't last long. Additionally, I have always had hair texture that is more than suitable for braids that last longer than the usual time frame so I knew something wasn't right. This shop requires you to pay upfront so I had no choice but to hand over my $190 before there was even a handful of braids. The woman braiding my hair made the first 2-3 rows of braids very small, loose and sloppy. I didn't realize this until she was more than halfway through with my hair. I started to feel my braids and they were LOOSE…twists are not supposed to be loose. After she finished braiding my hair 6 hours later, I checked it in the mirror and didn't see much wrong…initially. I was tired and so ready to go home and rest. When I got home, I was weaving my hands through the braids and realized how terribly most of them were done. Some braids were different sizes, a few were already starting to untwist and there were several that didn't look like twists but more like braids with wholes and gaps. I was beyond furious. I returned the next day with a friend and conveyed my dissatisfaction to the owner. She apologized, said the braider isn't used to braiding big braids [they weren't that big to begin with] and had the same woman fix my braids. This took another 3.5 hours. I thoroughly checked all of my braids and it was actually worse this time. The woman, whom I can't even call a professional, didn't seem to care one bit about the poor quality of her braiding. I left and returned the next day to the shop full of customers, braiders and the owner. I pulled the owner aside respectfully and told her I was still dissatisfied with my hair. I went on the state that even the small braids were done poorly so I don't think it's a matter of inexperience with big braids…the woman just can't and shouldn't be assigned to do twists. I reminded her how I spent a total of almost 10 hours in the chair getting my hair braided and I paid almost $200 and this isn't fair to me. She asked what would I like for her to do to resolve this issue and I said that I deserve half of my money back. She pointed to a sign and said "we don't issue refunds." I was aware of this already but I assumed customer satisfaction would triumph company policy. Not at this shop! This owner had the audacity to offer me another opportunity to have my braids redone by yet another person in the shop. I wasn't having that. There is also so much cultural insensitivity at this shop because the women are mostly from West Africa and they consistently speak in their language unless they're handling business calls or communicating with the customer. That is plain indecency and rude; it doesn't take regard for the customer's comfort whatsoever. I DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS SHOP TO ANYONE. They obviously place money over the satisfaction of their customers and are incapable of admitting their wrongs. They lack business etiquette to say the least. I myself am an East African woman and I will definitely spread the word to all the African and African-Americans about this so called shop of theirs. I don't want anyone else to ever waist their time and money at such a place.

I wish I would have read the reviews before going to this horrid place. I have never been to a dirtier place in my life. I believe the main "stylist" lives on the couch in the squalid conditions of the shop. Looked like a vacuum has never been used anywhere. A second woman, who spoke better English, showed up to help the non-English speaking stylist. She was downright evil. Insisted that money be paid upfront. What beauty salon does that?? None that we have ever been to. Had my daughter's regular stylist not been on maternity leave, we would have walked out. Nasty place run by nasty, hateful women, charging way too much money for the quality of the service. Stay far away from this place! Only giving one star because 0 is not an option.

This place is HORRIBLE. I called to schedule an appointment and I was quoted one price. Soon as I get into the shop they did not even say hello. They told me my hair was too long and too soft for that price and needed to charge me more. They processed to put the smock on me and smelled as if it was never washed. Finally picked out hair that I wanted and was told a different color would be better. She was preparing the hair and while doing so it was hanging down touching her bare feet. Before putting a braid in my hair they asked me to pay. I asked them if my braids could be bigger they said no I cannot get what I wanted. I said i will go somewhere where I can get what I want. I'm assuming the owner told me I needed to pay her $20 for a pack of hair she cut. I asked to see the price of the pack of hair. She threw the hair on me and told me I need to pay for it and it's mine. I told her no thank you and I was leaving. She locked the door and said she was calling the police. I got up to leave and she told me I have issues and I'm a theft. If you would like to be in an unsanitary environment with "professional" hairdressers who refuse to give you want you are paying for this is the place for you. I don't think they deserve 1 star.
