First Baptist was founded in 1822 as the first congregation in the new city of Indianapolis. We moved to our current location in the Spring of 1960. For more than 185 years, we have been engaged in active and vital ministry in the city of Indianapolis and the world. First Baptist Church is affiliated with the American Baptist Churches (AMB), USA. As a local church and a member of ABC of Greater Indianapolis, we are fully committed to faith in the gospel message of God's unconditional love for the world. Jesus Christ is our living example and the Holy Spirit is our guide for relating to those in our own congregation and throughout the city, the nation, the world. Worship is central to the life of the church. Therefore, we look forward to worshipping God in a variety of ways. We worship as a community and as individuals, through prayer, ministry, study, sharing faith stories, Biblical reflection, Holy Communion, music, drama, mission, and outreach.
