CRF is a great company that truly cares about the residents. They even have people that help with life skills for kids and adults.

This is in reference to "Midtown Flats" which is run by CRF and took over from Zender.

CRF sounds like a not-for-profit organization that would be a positive force in the community, but it's a thinly-veiled scam. When CRF bought many Zender buildings, including the one I lived in (and many of my neighbors, who had been tenants for 25 years or more), they began construction and abruptly notified all tenants that they would be forced to relocate for the duration of the project. Many of them tried to get out of their leases legally and were not permitted to. Now the buildings sit empty while improvements are made. While this could be a good thing, I fear that they are destroying the historical architecture and driving up rent in order as an excuse to pay for all the renovations. Not only that, but their emergency maintenance line goes nowhere so you can't get assistance. I paid my pro-rated last month of rent and got a letter fining me for not paying the entire month. I was eventually able to work this out with the staff after excessive stress and hassling and the charges were removed. However, it took them about three months to return my deposit and I had to call at least a dozen times after the first month (under the Indiana tenant's rights laws, they have 30 days to get you the money). Zender used to be a great, affordable place for artists and students but I would never rent from CRF.

One final thought--they have limited office hours and are only open 10-5, so good luck getting in touch with them if you have a job.

Brought out sender and for a company claims over 23 years of business their booking sucks. Rent was paid, they cashed the check and got a notice to pay rent or court action will proceed. Never had this problem with Zender properties. So far Merchants Affordable Housing Corporation: d\b\a Northside Flats are not a good business.
