Dr. Gomes told me I needed $6900 worth of work. I have no insurance and told him I would not be able to afford that and would have to go to IU dental school instead. His office then came up with a payment plan for my treatment, 30% down at each of three visits and $135 automatic deduction per month on the balance. I only agreed to be treated by him because we made this payment agreement. Today, after the first two visits, his office called me to say that they would not do any further treatments until my balance was paid in full and they cancelled my scheduled graft surgery for next month. I have paid them exactly what was agree to on time, not a penny less. He has now done $4600 worth of work that I never would have agreed to start with him if he hadn't made that payment agreement with me. When I spoke with him on the phone and asked why the agreement was being changed, he claimed that the original plan didn't include the tissue grafts. (It did, I have the original copy from August.) When I pointed out that he was breaching our original contract, he laughed and said the following. "If you are only paying me $135 a month, you will be paying that off until I die. I am a business owner and I expect to be paid. I don’t have to offer you credit at all. I am not even charging you interest. I don’t have to honor any agreement. What do I work for the government or something? I have plenty of patients that pay for their dental work up front. After this conversation, I wouldn’t work on you again even if you paid your balance off.” Now, I have to go through the lengthy process of becoming a patient at the IU dental school to get this surgery done, which will take months. He told me at my initial appointment that it could not wait that long and that it would be better if I had him do it as soon as possible. Now, after he has already done 2/3 of the work needed, he refuses to honor the payment schedule that his office talked me into to get my business. Stay away.
