Independence Excavating, Inc. is a recognized industry leader in challenging site development/redevelopment, demolition, heavy industrial applications, environmental solutions and concrete construction.  IX is a large, family-owned and operated business that was founded in 1956 as a general contractor by the DiGeronimo family.  Independence Excavating has earned a solid reputation for honesty, integrity and outstanding performance throughout the last 57 years. Independence Excavating, Inc. employs on average 350 employees and prides itself on retention of talent and the utilization of that experience to further its growth. Our General Superintendents have been with Independence on average 25 years and our superintendents over 15.

With Cleveland, Ohio as our home for the last fifty-seven years, IX has established a collection of talented and experienced professionals who maintain the same values of safety, integrity and quality. IX is able to self-perform associated services including excavating and site grading, electrical and mechanical utility construction and relocation, selective/interior demolition, scrap and concrete segregation and recycling, environmental assessments and remediation, foundation removal, and concrete cutting services.

IX manages an extensive fleet of major demolition and excavation equipment including cutting edge technology like the low emission CAT D7E Electric Drive dozer.  IX also maintains a readily accessible 66,000 SF 5 overhead crane bay located in Independence, Ohio as well as a 30,000 SF shop with 20TN overhead crane bay located just outside of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. At both facilities IX can address equipment repair and maintenance. IX also employs 10 repair mechanics in OH, PA & WV and owns 8 portable fuel lube trucks and 4 mechanical work stations for portable jobsite repairs. Additionally, IX has the ability to fabricate attachments to specifically address project needs.
