Located in Independence, La., Independence Elementary School is a coeducational institution that teaches students in kindergarten through fourth grade. The school has a staff of more than 40 full-time certified teachers and paraprofessionals, including a speech pathologist, reading coach, interventionist and media specialist. It provides academic classes in various subjects, including foreign language, health education, mathematics, music, social studies, visual arts, English, and home and career skills. The school organizes a variety of extracurricular activities, such as open houses, book fairs, a Santa shop, Christmas assemblies, spring carnivals and a Martin Luther King program.
