The adoption process was long ...

The adoption process was long and painful. We bonded with a kitten, submitted our application on a Saturday, and patiently waited for them to do vet reference on our 1-year-old. They waited until 9 days later to do the vet reference and the new vet didn't have the transferred paperwork so they asked for the old paperwork.

After spending the afternoon tracking down their required info, they let us know that our new "baby" had been adopted out from under us, and the person calling us had known since yesterday. Why put us through all that when the cat we wanted was already adopted? My husband and I were heartbroken. They blamed it on multiple adoption counselors, but that leads me to believe that they don't have any kind of system that they follow to put cats "on hold" when someone applies for them.

I wouldn't dissuade people from adopting since the cats need good homes, but be aware that even if you apply for a specific cat, until they bring it by, you can expect to have someone else adopt it. Our first cat was from Forgotten Felines, and they did a check that day, and a home visit the following day. I'd recommend them over A New Leash.

After finding the right Puppy for my 9 year old son, we did all our paper work and paid the fees to get our puppy. We were told they had to have a vet check first and microchip her before we get to take her home. When she was ready, we were asked if we really wanted her and were told that someone else wanted her if not. We told the lady we really wanted her for my son. the next day the lady that was taking care of her called and said she had to come do a home inspection. We told her that would be fine. When the lady, showed up at the house, she looked around very critically at everything in the house. In the end, she did not leave the dog. The reasons were that our furniture was too expensive and our house was too new and the puppy was going to chew it all up, and the fence was not good enough to keep her inside the yard. I really do not understand some people and how they discriminate against people in so many creative ways. I guess if my furniture and house are too good for your dogs, then I do not need one of those animals that you take care of. Plus, I believe that maybe you wanted to give the puppy to someone else that you knew or keep it for yourself.

Signed,

The family without Weezer!

We went to the pet adoption event and fell in love with a dog. We paid the fee and signed the contract. The director Karen didn't want to let him go to us so she said she needed to do a home inspection. We agreed and she didn't show. 2 days later she called saying someone else had already adopted him. What a joke. They do this all the time. They discriminate to who they want. They told us they had another dog for us to go pick it up. We drove there and they didn't let us take the dog. My daughters were upset and the lady told me I needed to teach them disappointment. Never again!

I adopted a dog from this organization years ago. I am being forced to move to a place that doesn't allow dogs. I went and explained myself, and they weren't happy that my dog and I had to be separated, and they didn't have a spot open in a foster home right then. They told me I could help get him adopted. I brought him to Petsmart two weekends in a row, and on the second weekend an awesome family with kids adopted my sweet Buddy. All these people are volunteers, trying to make the best of the situation. I am glad they are here, doing what they are doing. I am going to try to start helping them by volunteering. They saved Buddy from the shelter and maybe death. I bet he is happier than he ever was with me. If you need to take a pet back to them, you will have to be involved - this organization isn't like the city pound where you can just dump them an leave. You should know that going in.

This place is a joke!! They told us that we could return the pet to them if we did not want her. Well i grew allergic and needed to send her back. They told us they were too full and then told us to bring her to petsmart on their adoption days. That is not what is in the contract. Not once did it say i had to waste my gas going to petsmart to try to find this dog a new adoption. They have broken their end of the contract as far as i am concerned. I would not recommended getting an animal from this place!!! Very rude and unprofessional unless you are getting a pet from them then they are happy to take your money and run! Thanks for nothing a new leash on life!

Several months after losing my 12 year old Labrador retriever I decided I was ready for another dog. I didn't want a puppy since I work full-time so I opted for a young adult (1-2 years old). We were introduced to a lab/beagle mix and told she was 2 or 3 years old. A few weeks after the adoption I took her to the vet who scanned her microchip and found out that she was actually 9 years old! This could have been easily discovered by the rescue organization if they had scanned her. I wasn't ready for an old dog and the inevitable health issues quite so soon but decided to keep her none the less. 8 months later, it just wasn't working out with the dog and I contacted the organization about returning her. Initially, they said they would take her and then contradicted themselves and said they were too full. I was told that the contract I signed states that I have to foster the dog until they find a home. Based on the age and behavior problems we have had with her I don't see us ever finding another home for her. I will never adopt an adult dog from a rescue organization again.
