Music is fun, so learning how to play it should be fun too. From your very first lesson with me, you'll be learning how to play a song of your choosing! Not only does this teach you the foundations of how to play guitar, but it also gives you the MOTIVATION of WHY to play guitar. Aside from teaching guitar lessons for 7 years, I am also an active songwriter and performer in the Houston area. This provides me with firsthand experience in important areas like playing for a crowd and recording my own material. All of this is vital to learning how to be a well-rounded musician, which is what you will learn from me. When you start by playing music you love, you will end up loving to play music.

Before the lesson, all I'll need from you is a song you want to learn and an open mind. At the start of your first lesson, (after cracking a joke about myself to break the ice) I'll ask you about your motivation and reasons for learning to play the guitar. What's your favorite genre of music? Favorite band? What's your current skill level (if not an absolute beginner) and how good do you hope to get? From there I can easily assess how to proceed with the lesson. The next step is showing you how to play a part of the song you chose before the lesson, and building from there. I'll add in points about music theory like chords and scales in an organic matter - you'll hardly feel like you're learning at all because you're having so much fun! You'll leave the lesson with a new song to play (your practice for the week won't really feel like "practice") and a greater love of music.
