Natural Resource Partners L.P. is a master limited partnership principally engaged in the business of owning and managing coal properties in the three major coal producing regions of the United States: Appalachia, the Illinois Basin and the Western United States. Formed in 2002 from selected properties of the WPP Group and Arch Coal, Natural Resource Partners is a master limited partnership principally engaged in the business of owning and managing coal properties in the three major coal producing regions of the United States. The partnership does not actively engage in the mining of coal but rather leases its properties to experienced coalmine operators under long-term leases. It actively works with its lessees to develop efficient methods to exploit the reserves and to maximize production from the properties. Natural Resource Partners is headquartered in Houston and has coal-mining interests in Alabama, Kentucky, Maryland, Virginia, West Virginia, Tennessee, Illinois, Indiana and Montana.
