Raul Molina arrived in Houston from his hometown of Laredo, Mexico, in the 1920s. Like many of his contemporaries, he was searching for a better life and found work in a local restaurant as a busboy, dishwasher and counterman. In 1941 Raul and wife Mary opened their first Mexican restaurant, the Old Monterrey, located in Houston at 1919 W. Gray. At the time there were only four or five Mexican restaurants in the City of Houston. Today, Raul Molina is considered a pioneer in Tex-Mex cuisine and is known as the patriarch of a food family. Nearly eight decades later, Molina’s Cantina is recognized as the oldest and one of the best locally owned and operated Tex-Mex restaurants in Houston. The Molina family has played a significant role in shaping Houston’s culinary landscape and continues to enjoy the privilege of growing with the community. Whether a third-generation customer or a first-time visitor, we welcome you to the Molina familia. Come, eat, and enjoy a Houston tradition.Raul Molina arrived in Houston from his hometown of Laredo, Mexico, in the 1920s. These people are skimpty they water down the hot sauce Jorge the GM is rude with an attitude. The location on Bellaire is pretty nice but Westheimer they all have attitudes just tight wads ! Like all spics if you know what I mean.

When they serve the table with chips and hot sauce they only serve once and try to nicke and dime the customer! I wish they would all go back south they have ruined our country !

I've been going to Molinas for more than 20 years. They are my favorite in the Houston area, their food/presentation hasn't changed. My favorite was SW Fwy & Buffalo Speedway. They closed that to build a new HEB. I now frequent the one on W'heimer. Their food is REAL Tex-Mex!
