Founded in 1936, Mirabeau B. Lamar High School is a part of the Houston Independent School District. The school serves more than 3,300 students in grades 9 through 12. Its academic curriculum includes language arts, math, science, history, geography and economics. It offers a variety of extracurricular activities, such as music, dance, theatre, fine arts, and health and physical education. Mirabeau B. Lamar High School also features a choir, band and orchestra. In addition, the school offers Spanish, Russian, German, French, Italian and Chinese as foreign languages. It operates a parent-teacher organization that conducts fundraising activities and special programs, including book fairs, college nights and musical shows. Its range of extracurricular activities includes football, basketball, baseball, soccer, golf and cross country. The school also provides several diploma, certificate and advance placement courses. Located in Houston, Mirabeau B. Lamar High School is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools.
