Located in Houston, Matzke Elementary School enrolls more than 900 students in kindergarten through grade five. It offers several academic courses, including reading, language arts, mathematics, science, social studies, technology applications, health and physical education, art, music and theatre arts. The school also offers English as a Second Language and gifted education programs. Its library is a learning resource center that houses supplemental multimedia materials and a variety of recreational and informational reading selections. The school offers the HORIZONS program for academically gifted students. It also provides several enrichment activities, such as student clubs, tutorial sessions, cultural arts programs, academic competitions and field trips. The school s parent-teacher organization funds a range of cultural arts activities and sponsors various student events. It is governed by the Cypress-Fairbanks Independent School District.
