Service deserves NO STAR as well as the atmosphere. This restaurant may have Houston Chronicle reviews and decent food but that is not everything in the restaurant business - most people would like to go to a welcoming and enjoyable environment to have a good meal with wonderful, attentive customer service. If that's what you are looking for, DO NOT GO HERE!! It's a small place - with a very rude owner, who sits out front like a manic and rips you off with extra charges at the register or by upping the price of the dishes and throws your change at you with no word uttered no thank you nothing. When this restaurant was fairly new and he was trying to grow his business he was attentive and at times a bit too talkative and intruding - all gone to his head! He caters mostly to his Caucasian customers and is extremely rude to everyone else as if we are coming to get free food or something. The "slender waiter" as he is referred seems to be the head waiter and is absolutely horrible - throws down the menu and looks all over the restaurant while taking your order with very few words as well. No welcome either just says "bolo" = yes. I have to mention that the other mostly hispanic employees are wonderful and very nice, I often ask them for something if I need it and prefer to leave them the tip. If you eat here, check your bill as they feel they have the right to add an automatic 10% tip regardless of your party size and look out for other fees.

One of the best foods i have had in Houston. Love their chicken seekh kababs and paneer hara masala. Ambiance is okay but you have to go there if you are a foodie. Have been there several times and never had to wait for more than 10 mins after ordering. The owner is sweet and hospitable, although sometimes he seems overwhelmed. A MUST RESTAURANT TO DINE AT IF YOU LIKE INDIAN FOOD.

One Of The Bad Place In Houston

Very bad Restaurant food & staff. Not a good service. Watch your bill, they always over charge. I will never go back in this Restaurant and never recommend to any one. They served old food.

Very good food and service. Had the Fish Curry and really enjoyed it. My friend had the Lamb Seekh Kabab and thought it was the greatest thing since sliced bread. I really liked this restaurant and would recommend it to anyone.

Delicious? The samosas have a lot of crust, but the crust is so delicious that it could be all crust, and that would be okay. Meanwhile the filling, once you find it, has a delicate, unusual fennel flavor and the tamarind sauce is the perfect foil. My favorite at Himalaya Restaurant.

The food and service here is superb! I'm still not accustomed to the entire Himalayan culture, but this restaurant definitely brings me closer to it. The atmosphere is very traditional and the music is cool that they play in there. Overall a great experience for me and I would recommend this spot to anyone.

I don't understand what everyone's complaint is. You get what you pay for: Great food, Great service, and a wonderful restaurant to enjoy your meal at. I think some people just don't know what good food and good service is. I surely do, and that's why I recommend Himalaya Restaurant to all!

Great Food, But...

Excellent food, with high quality ingredients, but the service is spotty. With untrained waiters that stare at customers and hold dishes with their fingers in the food...

Be very careful with the Bill. It never adds up. You should keep track of what you order and calculate the bill before paying... It's always off, and once it was off by $30 dollars for a take out... Fortunately I had calculated the bill with Houston sales tax.

I would gladly go somewhere else if the food was as good, but he does have great food. He should raise prices hire a trained staff and position himself as a high end restaurant instead of resorting to stupid tricks that give him a bad reputation.

Arrogant owner/chef, Poor service, ok food

The arrogant owner comes to take your order, telling you what you CAN have, despite what's on the menu, pushing items he wants. Have been there several times with consistent "pushy" attitude. I feel the owner really doesn't care if you walk out, they feel they have enough business. I'd rather spend my hard earned money in a friendlier, courteous place, of which there are numerous. Long wait times !! Certainly noticed more than once, offered better service to Non-Indians.

STRONGLY NOT RECOMMENDED

I strongly DO NOT recommend this place as first, there is no ambience at all!!! Secondly, the owner is a VERY mean person and and do not treat customers well. He persuades you into buying at least 3-4 dishes even if you are not willing to. There is no printed menu card. The owner is very rude and absolutely not clean. When I was visiting this restaurant last time, he was itching in his pants at the counter. While I was waiting there for my food to take it to go, his employee came out of the kitchen and put 2 nans on the counter (to serve some other customer who was on the table) and the owner touched those nans without even washing his hands. Looking at that, I didnt feel like eating food from that place and I tried to cancel the order. But he started arguing about the issue and asked me to pay even though i was not really willing to take food from him. He doesnt have manners to talk to customers and claims that food is good. Evenif the food is okay, WILL ANYBODY LIKE TO EAT FROM SUCH UNCLEAN HANDS??? One could imagine where else he puts his hands and serves his customers. Yukkkkkkk !
