Great grooming services at fai...

Great grooming services at fair prices. I have a long hair cat and it was approximately $40 for a wash and blow dry + nail trim. Very well located on West Alabama near Montrose. A total "mom & pop" type business and they sell adorable cat toys and the like for the most finicky cats and their human mommy's. :)

My only rather large complaint, and the reason I did not give 5 stars is they have absolutely no concept of "appointments" or "time management." Supposedly their first appointment is at 10:00, but when pressed, they'll tell you 9:00. When pressed further, they'll tell you 8:00 for special circumstances. So when you think you've got the first appointment of the morning (at 9:00) there is a strong likelihood that you do not. Furthermore, they will start working on your cat, then let him "rest" and go work on another cat, and your cat gets forgotten about...The first time I went, an appointment that should have taken 2 hours tops, took 4. The second time, after my cat had been there for 2.5 hours, I called to get an approximate pick up time and THEY HADN'T EVEN STARTED YET! I found this to be totally unacceptable. If you're in a hurry, this is not the place for you. If you have all day and a very flexible schedule, go for it, they are good at their job, they're just awful at time management. They also seem completely unaware and unphased that a customer might be upset if they are running 2-4 hours behind schedule. And this is the norm, not the exception. It's VERY laid back... perhaps a bit more than is justifiable.

In my opinion, they either need to allow more time between appointments, take fewer appointments or get additional staff because it's not fair to busy moms to expect a pet grooming session to become an all day affair.

We would like to apologize that we did not make it clear to this client that we schedule drop-off times, not appointments. When we first started we tried appts. and scheduling. It does not work with an all cats buisness, dogs can cats don't. Cat grooming is very different from dog grooming. Cats are tempremantal. As an example, it starts with the clients not being able to catch the cat and get it to us at the specified time so we schedule windows of drop off times like 9-10; 10-11 AM and so on and hope. We try to be flexible for the client. We are unable to specify a pick up time because of many factors. We call when the cat is ready. Most cats due to dry time, combout, etc. take 3-4 hours for the process. Depending on the day we may or may not be able to schedule drop off times earlier than 10. Our people often ride the bus to work which in Houston, because of the erratic bus service means the groomer might not make it in on time so we try to accomadate the client for drop off by having someone there to check-in the cat for the person who is on their way to work at 8 AM, but we prefer after 9:30. This does not mean that we start the cat's groom at 8Am but if someone can be there for drop off then we can accept him and when the groomer gets in at, hopefully 9 she can start. We try to make it clear that we will call when the cat is ready. Some days all the cats are use to grooming and the day is smooth but most days we will have kitties who need to be rested and may take all day to groom or the sweet cat that turns aggressive part way thru the groom or pees on himself just as we finish the last comb thru and we need to rebathe. If we do more than one cat a day then we have to work them through as they will let us. That means the client may drop off early and get the cat back late in the day. We usually tell people this the first time they book. If they absolutely need the cat back at a certain time then we gauge how long it will take and try to get him back but this does not always work out. We don't want to traumatize the cat anymore than necessary so we ask the client for their indulgence in letting us use our discretion about resting, etc. This means that sometimes the good cat takes longer because we have three other hard to handle cats that we are trying to work thru as well. Again, we know people have schedules, live far away and are trying to beat the traffic and we try to meet those needs as much as we can if they let us know. If we can't, we usually suggest another day when they do not have other obligations. As to additional staff. There are lots of dog groomers, very few competent cat groomers. I know. I have tried a bunch of them, put them on probation and let them go a few days later. The groomer who has done dogs for ten years and decides to switch to cats doesn't usually last the week. Ask your vet about the risks and problems between the two. We happen to love cats and are willing to deal with them. Cats are hard and much more dangerous. Both our current groomers have been in the hospital for three or four days after a bad bite to the tune of many thousands of dollars that the client is never aware of and not responsible for. Believe me when I say we are not laid back. Our grooming days are long, hard work days with few breaks. We do not forget about cats but try to give every cat our full attention while he is being worked on. Again, we apologize and hope that she will try us again
