Dr. Valerie Bauer earned her medical degree at University of Texas Medical Branch-Galveston (UTMB) and completed residencies at UTMB, Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons, Maimonides Medical Center and Methodist Hospital and Dallas. She also completed a fellowship at the University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston (UTHealth) Medical School. Board certified in both general surgery and colon and rectal surgery, Dr. Bauerââ"šÂ¬Ã¢"žÂ¢s clinical interests are enhanced recovery after surgery, minimally invasive laparoscopic surgery, pelvic health and incontinence, anorectal disorders, and sphincter sparing surgery for complicated diverticulitis. She speaks Greek and Spanish, and treats patients 18 and older, or younger children on a case-by-case basis. Named a Texas Superdoc in 2013, Dr. Bauer believes in a two-fold commitment: to bring hope to the patient and to provide excellent care that heals illness and suffering. She treats each patient with the dignity and respect of a family member. She is personally involved in helping each understand the condition and proposed treatment plan. A Galveston resident, Dr. Bauer is married and has two children. Outside her practice, she enjoys tennis, running and waterskiing.
