Valued Customer?

To Whom It May Concern,

This complaint is regarding the Valero at West Park and Gessner in Houston TX.

I have been a customer of Valero since the late 90’s and was there to see them become the largest refiner in North America. I have always considered Valero to be a reputable corporation and have been loyal to the company as a customer. I believe that the ability to have a choice is a cornerstone in the American way of life, and that choice for me was Valero. I am much more inclined to frequent an establishment if I feel welcome regardless of what the price of fuel is, so I hope you can see why I have decided to contact everybody I can about this complaint.

Although it may seem like a frivolous complaint, I was thoroughly astonished by the treatment I received on 06-18-10 at approximately 5:30 pm. I came in, as usual to get a frozen cola and some fuel. I stepped up to the counter and gave the cashier, whose name tag read “GOLD”, a twenty and two quarters. The total was $1.08 and I asked her to give me the rest in gas. She then asked me which pump I was on and I explained that there was a line and I wasn’t to the pump yet but I was the white truck with a big antenna on it. The cashier didn’t want to ring me up for the gas or accept my money because I was not at the pump yet. I then asked her why she couldn’t ring me up for the frozen cola and then when it was my turn at the pump, authorize it for the remainder so that I wouldn’t have to come back in and stand in line again unnecessarily. At this time she seemed to take offense to my remark and begrudgingly took my money and rung me up. I didn’t think anything of it again until I reached the pump and waited patiently for it to be authorized. After a couple minutes I reset the pump and pushed the call attendant button. I repeated this a couple more times after waiting a little longer because I realized that it was busy and I wanted to get the attention of the cashier so they could authorize my pump. After another few minutes I called the store to let them know I was at the pump and ready. GOLD answered the phone and it was evident that she was just plain ignoring me because she took even longer to authorize. Again I was left waiting so I went in to get a refund and take my business to another more hospitable location. It was at this time that she told me that the pump was on and ready. I let her know that I did not want the fuel any longer and could I just have my change back. She then proceeded to give me my change ($19.42) in one dollar bills. I told her that I did not want all ones back and she exchanged 10 of them for two five dollar bills which left me with 9 dollar bills. I again asked her to exchange some of the money for higher a denomination and she said that she didn’t have it.

This is where I got frustrated because I plainly saw an excessive amount of larger bills that were available for her to give me. When I asked for the manager I was told that they were unavailable. After seeing that there was no one available to help me resolve this matter diplomatically I called the police. I wanted to make a report so that it would be on file if this cashier gives similar problems to other customers or is involved in any other altercations as a result of her inappropriate behavior. I do admit that it was a little excessive to involve the police in this matter but I was under a lot of stress and this pushed me to the limit. I usually am very easy going and slow to anger and this made me realize that if I could be pushed to the limit by a rude and uncooperative cashier that obviously does not like or value her job, then anybody, especially someone who has no restraint, could come in and cause a potentially dangerous situation in this store.
