I had been referred to them by...

I had been referred to them by my primary vet for a spot on an xray. They charged me 2,200 to keep her over the weekend, give her an ultrasound and keep her on fluids. They gave me an over the top diagnosis of some rare disease and wouldn't listen when I told them she was showing discomfort in her stomach by tossing and turning. A week and a half later, I brought her to another vet when she didn't make a recovery. Come to find out, they had misdiagnosed her and on the ultrasound, the seemed to have missed a foreign body in her stomach which since then had ripped a hole in her stomach and she was leaking fluid. When I called during that time, the only thing they told me was that I could bring her back in to spend more money. These people are very anxious to charge you money. You will not get to talk to the doctor b/c they have their assistant call you. They are not very knowledgeable. They do not listen to your needs or concerns. They want your money to pay for their fancy hospital with their free cappuchino machine. They take advantage of caring pet owners in a bind. My vet said because of the hole from the object that was missed on the ultrasound they did, she may not make it now b/c she may die of infection and it will be about 5 days of hell before we know.. If I could give zero stars, I would but it makes me give them a star. Since then, I have also heard of someone that I know that is a breeder that had six puppies. They said the dogs were going to die and they needed 2,000 per dog or they could just leave the puppies there for them to get well and they would sell them to get their money back. It sounded very fishy so they brought the puppies back to their local vet who treated them for a minor bacterial infection for a portion of what GCVS was going to charge for ONE of the puppies. They said "if you leave with these puppies, they will die". Now, what does this sound like to you? If you care about your pet, do NOT bring them to GCVS. I will consider calling an attorney in the near future once my dog gets through this to see what I can do. These people need to be shut down b/c I cannot imagine how many people have been ripped off. If I hadn't gone for another opinion, my dog would not have the 75% chance she has right now to live. She would be DEAD!

Good experience, Terrible Experience

We used this facility in 2006/2007 (Dr. Liska) to perform hip replacement surgery (both hips, approx. 1 year apart)...very successful. We were given information, options with and without surgical intervention, not placed under pressure. It was expensive, but this experience I rate 5 stars.

In 2009, we investigated some skin issues with Dr. Fadok and again we were satisfied with results, though the cost was a bit over the top for what we received. I rate this experience 3 stars.

Recently our dog was limping on his right rear leg. We scheduled a consultation with Dr. Whitney on recommendation of Dr. Liska. I can only state this was the worst experience I have ever had with a so called veterinary professional. We had x-rays and blood work performed prior to the actual consultation, so that information would be available. The actual consultation consisted of 1) Hello, 2) Whitney bent down and squeezed the dogs leg and made the dog yelp and run to the corner of the room 3) Whitney’s statement that proved the ligament was ruptured and he needed TPLO surgery at $4200 per leg (needed both done at same time as one was injured now and the other most likely would be injured shortly thereafter) and 4) he would do it on Thursday (this was a Tuesday). No discussion of how he obtained this diagnosis; no discussion of resting the dog for a period of time and see what improvement might come about (not talking total healing…just should we give the dog some rest by restricting movement, reduce his weight, start on anti-inflammatory, etc.). I could type pages on this experience, but can advise any pet owner to fully investigate Cruciate Ligament Injuries prior to rushing into a drastic surgery such as TPLO (there are many web sites on the subject; many have obvious bias; but all have a collective story to tell and you need to be informed). Some sites are http://dogkneeinjury.com/about/ and http://www.tiggerpoz.com/index.html. I have documented our terrible experience with Whitney and will be sending to the Texas State Board of Veterinary Examiners. My impression is business is down and he could care less about my pets well being and interested only in revenue.

We have taken the Conservative Management (CM) approach for the moment with our dog after consultation with another veterinarian. This consists of a weight reduction diet, fish oil tablets for inflammation, Chondroitin/Glucosamine for joint pain, and he is under house arrest (restricted activity). We have also ordered a brace (several custom braces in the market place) to support the leg. This is the plan for the next 60 days. I do not know what we will do in the future…this CM process and brace may be satisfactory (he is doing much better in only a few days of resting, but too soon to tell). He may need a surgery, but he will be better prepared and so will we having the time to better obtain information. You will not get it from Whitney.
