Dan's Handyman Services - Handyman Hated it I would never hire Dan's Handyman Services in the future. It was extremely important for my home project to be finished over the summer. I began communication with Dan about my timing needs in early April of 2013. He was supposed to have started the work by June and finish by late August. Work did not begin until late August and the work is still unfinished as of today, September 20, 2013. He blames the village of schaumburg for not having their act together, and this is how he explains why the work couldn't begin on time. The village of schaumburg informed me that Dan did not complete their requests and this is why the permit was not ready until August. Holes have been left in the walls in several places and Dan did not take care of it, but requested the final payment. He never came by to look things over with me to make sure the work was completed and satisfactory. This practice does not exemplify excellent customer service. In addition, his work crew was rude and disrespectful to both myself and to my parents who were at my home on several occasions while they were working. They used loud profanity as they worked. They got into a loud argument on the phone on my property with Dan over not getting paid. I have a 15 year old son at home by the way who witnessed this and was upset by it. They left a huge mess several times that I had to clean up. They went into my house when I was not home and took things out of my fridge. I told them not to come inside when I wasn't home because I have 3 large dogs, and I'm not secure in having unfamiliar people walking around my home. They broke a dog gate that I use outside. They threw unused insulation into my yard for me to pick up myself, and by the time I got to it, it was all over the place. The young men he originally hired for the drywall were not qualified to do the work and screwed it up. He had to get new workers to repair and redo the drywall and then tried to charge me for it. He tried to hide his financial responsibility for these mistakes by falsely claiming at the last minute that extra labor had been done and extra materials had been purchased at the request of the village of schaumburg in order to satisfy building codes. I was never notified or informed of these extras, and the village hasn't been here in over 6 weeks. If I was supposed to pay for extras because of the village codes, then I was never informed about it. His mistakes are not my responsibility. I believe it was just Dan's way of trying to stick it to me for asking him to fix the holes. He didn't like it that I requested this to be fixed so at the last minute he suddenly came up with extra charges. I already paid him an additional $741 for the electrician, and this was supposed to be paid out of his end. He failed to communicate clearly with his subcontracted electrician, and claimed that it was somehow my fault that the chandelier took an hour to be installed. I have no idea why it took so long to install the fixture and the chandelier, but it's not my problem. Little things that should have been done for customer satisfaction purposes like making sure the cable TV outlet and the outlet covering were fastened to the drywall properly. At this point I need to pay dan the final payment for an unfinished and unsatisfactory job, just to get rid of him. Do not hire this contractor for anything, you will end up regretting it. Then he has the nerve to show photos of my garage conversion on his website. He sure didn't take pictures of the holes in the wall! The whole experience has been nothing but stress. This project was fairly simple and straightforward; framing, electrical outlets, drywall, and flooring. Should be easy for an experienced contractor, nothing complex about it. Dan's Handyman service cannot handle jobs like this. He should stick to caulking, changing toilet seats and hanging pictures perhaps.

Dan has always been an amazing go-to resource for us. There is literally no project too large or too small for him, and he's always treated every job with great care and workmanship. He's professional, friendly and genuinely competent in everything he does. When we were rehabbing a tired investment property, he had the skills and the network to get toms of work done that we could never have sourced or done ourselves, and throughout the process he was a constant source of priceless experience, insight and information. Best of all, Dan's the kind of guy you can trust to get the job done right the first time. For us there's no other expert we trust quite like him. Dan truly is the man. -- Bill & Tawnie
