We provide general foot care with heavy emphasis on mechanical stabilization (biomechanics) as an effective means of relieving symptoms generated by faulty foot function, as well as preventing deformity, symptoms, arthritis, and fatigue, which may affect feet, knees, hips or backs. We strive to keep our patients walking as pain free as possible to promote general well-being using the least painful methods possible. This office practices orthodox Root biomechanics. Over the past ten years, with the advent of managed care, orthodox biomechanics has been degraded in many ways. In order to achieve the goal of foot stabilization, prevention of foot deformity, and the reduction of postural symptoms, the most effective possible foot stabilization must be carried out. This is accomplished by strict adherence to proper examination, including radiographic, arthrometric (range of motion) and clinical examination. The procedure utilized in order to properly fabricate an orthotic device includes the following: weight-bearing angle and base of gait x-rays and, a full-scale range of motion examination to determine the areas of pathology and the amounts of each deformity. A proper plaster impression cast must be taken and an appropriate orthotic laboratory must be utilized to achieve the best possible result. It has been our unfortunate experience to see a lack of diagnosis resulting in the supposed dispensing of orthotic devices, which are no more effective than arch supports.
