Horrible Place!

Six years ago, when my daughter was 14, we took her to Highlands to be treated for depression. That was a huge mistake. She was not allowed to do her homework there and it ruined her perfect GPA. She was drugged so much so she could barely speak. She has never taken meds. since and has had no further issues with depression. The therapist we found for her after we pulled her from that place said she never needed meds., nor hospitalization, yet they insisted on both. She was dealing with grieving and typical teenage issues. She is currently attending college with a 3.8 GPA, she will graduate in 3 instead of 4 years, and start a Masters program next year. They tried to double charge me and my insurance company and finally refunded part of what they owed me only after I reported them for insurance fraud.

This should be investigated

This place should be investigated. I would have thoughtmy relative would have been sent to the place they had been in before. Highlands plays games with holding and not showing charts of medicine. They claim there's nothing on there paper log. Yet we heard our relative plead to be removed and taken to the other care center from a previous hospitalization over a year ago they gave the person a shot and the person dropped the phone. They are insurancesoakers. There Drs. go back and forth from releasing today to bad experience sorry to mentally not competent. They will traumatize the patients about release and no release and refuse to allow them a second assessment from another caregiver. Colorado can do without this place. They with hold phone calls and also do not return phone calls in a timely fashion. They are an insult to mentalhealth providers and will cause your loved one to beto frightened to ever see help again if they ever do recover.

I wouldn't take my worst enemy to Highlands

I took my child here because she was self harming. DO NOT EVER take your child to this facility. They put her in isolation for two days because she was in the same room as someone with the flu. She received no care during this time. She only saw the psychiatrist one time during her very expensive stay, and not the one that was initially assigned to her . They diagnosed her with depression and then put her on a non-FDA approved drug for the diagnosis. Now we are fighting side effects such as severe suicidal thoughts and hallucinations. They refuse to take my calls, and keep telling me to follow up with my aftercare provider. Our family needed help, and they only provided worsening circumstances. Please, if you care about your child, stay far away from this place.

NEVER SEND SOMEONE YOU LOVE HERE

This place is built for insurance fraud! Nothing else. I have been told by many (over 5) employees that regardless of your symptoms you will stay 7 - 10 day. No exceptions . Why? because they will put a mandated stay on you after 72 hours, wait until the judge must hear the case (10 days later), then suddenly let you go so it never goes to court. DO NOT PUT ANYONE IN THIS PLACE.

good place for troubled teens

The fees may be outrageous as the other reviewer stated, but I guess it all depends upon perspective. Any full observation facility is expensive - even with insurance. It IS a hospital setting. Our teen has received caring, gentle help from great staff who work very hard to get to the core of what is going on.

DO NOT RECOMMEND!!!!

Our 15 yr old was taken directly to HBH (influenced by our good mental health insurance) without consulting other options with us or his regular counselor. It was 2 days before a psychiatrist saw him. When we continually asked about this, HBH responded "the psychiatrist is very busy on the adult unit". They called us the day after he was admitted informing us of the outrageous daily fees for his inpatient treatment. They told us not to worry as we have good insurance. This was our only contact with them or him for the first 24 hours other than a nurse calling to inform us that they were administering psychotic drugs. He requested these drugs and we had no say as he was 15 years of age. We then attended a parent meeting and found that we were not alone in the lack of communication although most parents were not even advise of the outrageous fees associated to their loved ones treatment. After the 72 hour hold, we refused to sign the papers to continue his treatment as advised by
