Response from the owner In re...

In response to the previous review: Rowan Heating and Air Conditioning, Inc. was in a very difficult situation. We were called out to the below customers home to evaluate this gas furnace and found a high level of carbon monoxide poison leaking into this home. Carbon monoxide, even in small quantities can cause serious health problems, particularly in children and the elderly. Millions of unsuspecting homeowners are exposed to low levels of CO and don't even know it. When our technician arrived and evaluated the situation, he determined there was a crack in the heat ex-changer which was leaking carbon monoxide poison into the circulated air in the home instead of ventilating it back into the atmosphere. To prevent someone from turning this unit on not realizing the consequences and endangering others in the home, after our technician left the home, he was required to disable the unit. Unfortunately, it is really hard when the situation of a high carbon monoxide level is detected because we must take action (sometimes unpopular.) The majority of the time, when this dangerous situation is discovered, our customers are very thankful. Our technician acted appropriately and according to the International Fuel Gas Code 2006 page 159 (b). This is the procedure we followed which states: (b) If it is determined there is a condition that could result in unsafe operation, the appliance should be shut off and the owner advised of the unsafe condition. We are very sorry this customer, which had this situation with his heating equipment, is unhappy with us. When a customer calls our company out because they have a heating problem and our NCI trained technician determines the carbon monoxide levels are beyond the safety level, we are only attempting to prevent the terrible situation of what happened to the Oxon Hill family today. This article can be read at the article about this in the Washington Post Five-Killed-in-Oxon-Hill-home-by-apparent-carbon-monoxide-poisoning/2012/04/24/gIQArPHefT_story We are very sorry this customer is unhappy with our service, but we make no apology for our technicians actions. Our technician shared the metered carbon monoxide report with this customer and explained the dangers. This was not a sales ploy as the reviewer stated. Our equipments calibration was certified in February 2012, There is no way our technician was able to create a reading to create a scare tactic or would he want to. Our technician very likely saved his life and the lives of the other members living in this home. In light of the extremely sad situation of 5 people in Oxon Hill Maryland dying due to carbon monoxide poisoning today, one might be able to understand why our company stands behind our technician with this very unhappy customer. Again, we are very sorry this customer is unhappy, but we are glad you are safe. Buyer beware! I had an awful experience with this company. Use them at your own risk. Rowan sent a technician that came and checked my forced air heating unit in middle of winter. He claimed to be their best tech but had only been out of school for 8 years. Red flag #1. After checking the unit he claimed to have seen a large crack in the heating exchange and he turned off the gas claiming as a whatever heating association membership credentials he was obligated to do so. Red flag #2. (I can't believe I let him do that...he had no legal authority or responsibility to do so.) Let me add that Rowan didn't test for flue gas escape so there was no basis for his actions, let alone he had no legal authority to do so as I just said. He quickly followed up in a day, though with an estimate of almost $10 grand for a new unit. See where this is going?

I got another opinion from another heating firm that said visually sizing a crack and turning down a pilot because of that finding is simply a judgment call...one of the oldest scams in the AC and heating repair industry.business. Without additional testing, Rowan nor any other firm can tell you definitively if a malfunctioning unit is a hazard for CO2 poisoning.

When I complained, Rowan said they would stand by their technician but that they would refund my charges. To this day, they still have not.

Rowan heating and air conditio...

Rowan heating and air conditioning is a great family owned company. They really work together as a team. I called in the midst of a horrible heat wave. In spite of the fact the tech was faced with a large work load fixing units for customers without conditioning, he arrived, was very professional and worked on my ac with giving me all my options. After he diagnosed my problem he explained why this happened. In this time of extreme heat, he was very professional and a hard working employee. Thanks for keeping me cool.

Prompt, Friendly, and Helpful

My intial experience with Rowan Heating was through Theresa. I explained to her my problem with my furnance and she gave me some troubleshooting solutions first. I called her back within an hour to tell her that I thought the problem was fixed. Fifteen minutes later, I had to call her back to tell her that my furnance wasn't working again. She suggested that maybe it would be a good idea to send someone out.

My technician was Tommy who even though he is a Redskin fan, he was very friendly and helpful. He did an excellent job, explain to what the problem was and checked out my unit. I would definitely recommend Rowan Heating to anyone in the future.

Kudos to Russell & Tommy

It is very comforting to have honest, reliable, and experienced staff like Russ and Tommy of Rowan heating and Air Conditioning Inc.

Russ, being the main service technician that have serviced our home, has done more than just service our units. He has always been on time, provides quality service, explains the work options if necessary, and provide follow-up service. He knows the "industry" of repair and products that enhances our knowledge in making decisions when, and if, major or minor repairs are needed. Like a very good, trustworthy mechanic, we have nothing to worry about!

Congrats to Tommy (who Russ trained) for receiving his degree in the 4 year certification program. Another employee of Rowan's who brings those comforting qualities of knowledge, skill, and performance in customer service.

We rate Rowan's as a "5 Star" Business

Happy and Cool

I was so incredibly impressed with Rowan Heating & AC from the beginning to the end. Naturally, our AC unit broke during a hot spell. Fortunately, Russ Rowan was quick to respond, knowledgeable, and very patient and clear in explaining my options. The men (Nick, Dean, Jake, and Alan) who installed the AC and furnace were extremely professional and considerate. I highly recommend Rowan to anyone looking for a new HVAC system.

Economical solution

Rowan provided us with an economical solution to our HVAC issue when they could have done otherwise. The icing on the cake, Nick, the technician, on his own initiative and at no extra cost, took 5 minutes to fix the screen door.
