Provided by YP.comMy wife and I graduated from Morton High School in Hammond. Now we live in Minnesota, but we travel twice a year to Texas and North Carolina. We stay in motels, and we visit restaurants that are local or belong to a chain not located in our hometown. Our trips to North Carolina always take us through the Calumet Region to get around the Great Lakes.
Many of our 1960s and 1970s dates were at Miner Dunn or the original Aurelio's Pizza, so we always stop for thin fried hamburgers or Italian beef sandwiches - neither served in northern Minnesota.
Miner Dunn is on US-41 (Indianapolis Blvd) south of I-80,about midway between US-30 and I-80. It looks like (and is) a coffee shop from the 60s. Originally serving a variety of thin-pressed hamburgers with fries and orange sherbet; it now has a full menu of short orders. The waitresses and cashiers are all friendly. I always have the salad burger (shredded lettuce and 1000 Island Dressing) with fries and Chicago Brick soft serve (orange sherbet swirled with vanilla ice cream). The salad burger existed long before the Big Mac.
Miner Dunn looks like it did when I was in my 20s, but it looks like the bloom is off the rose. It's kept clean but could be freshened up.
