Clear discrimination

I'm Pauletta me an my husband recently got new jobs in the Catwaba/hickory area ( him a newton police officer an I a HR rep) I called an asked about at least several apartments in the area. Each time I was rudely told its was not available an hung up on. Frustrated at not being able to find a apartment I spoke to my husband about it (who is white an I am black). So my husband called an asked about several of the properties I inquired on earlier. 2 of the 3 were still available an the receptionist was very helpful an also directed him to other properties in the area, but I was told non were available. So just to double check again I called again after my husband to see maybe THORNBURG ASSOCIATION was mistaken it may have been a error but yet again I was told non were available. But luckily me an my husband were smart to record our last two conversations. An we have been in contact with channel 9 about this discrimination.

If the place you are looking to rent is managed by Thornburg and Associates -- RUNNNN!!! Like one of the previous reviews stated, they are trying to cheat us out of our security deposit. The owner is VERY rude when asking general questions. Upon moving out she made mention of damages that were being taken out of our deposit that we included on the move-in inspection form.

If you are a property owner, there are several other companies that would provide a better service than Thornburg and Associates. When I advised the owner of the discrepancies with what she was reporting, she stated that if I take them to court she would get it dismissed because she does not own the property. She basically implied that I need to sue the owner. The 5 years that I managed properties, I NEVER threw the owners under the bus.

Best to Keep looking

Glad to never have to rent again, but if I were I would make sure it was not managed by this company. The owner is rude and very unprofessional. We lived in a property managed by Thornburg and Associates for approx. 2 years. Upon moving out we were informed that we left the home in a nasty condition (owner's wording) and didn't even vacuum. I offered the owner photos that showed the vacuum marks still in the carpet - even had the vacuum cleaner in the pictures. She provided photos for damages that are not a tenant's responsibility -- cracks in wall due to shifting foundation, deteriorating wood on the outside window sill, three (3) light bulbs being out. She also cited us for damages that we reported when we moved in, that were never addressed. When I mentioned that I would be disputing in small claims court, she abruptly stopped me and said, "We will have it dismissed because we do not own the property." I advised her that I have only ever dealt with them and never the owner directly. At which point she basically insinuated that I need to sue the property owner. I have managed 100+ properties in the past, and I would have never thrown them under the bus, or give the tenant the impression their best recourse would be to sue my client.If you are looking to rent -- I would HIGHLY recommend you make sure the property is not managed by Thornburg and Associates.If you are looking for a property manager -- I would also HIGHLY recommend you find a more suitable company to handle your property.

Never get to repairs. They try to cheat you out of your security deposit. Save yourself and don't rent from them.

Be prepared to get screwed over!!!

My husband and I rented from them for a year. We were good tenants. Never did we pay rent late or called in to complain. After we moved out, they charged us for normal wear and tear, such as replacing batteries with new ones even though the smoke alarm battery was still working. General cleaning that is their responsibility. We spent a whole day cleaning. They charged us for carpet cleaning when there were no stains on the carpet. $6 for sweeping the floor. They have us a list of requirements for moving out that we had to do. We did all of it. They charged us for things that weren't even on the list. They're unethical people. Don't rent from them. They'll try to rip you off. They try to pull out money from your security deposit so they won't lose any money for routine cleaning. DONT RENT FROM THORNBURG & ASSOCIATES!!! This is your warning.

Be prepared to get screwed over

We were good tenants. We always paid rent on time and never complained. When we moved out, they screwed us over. They charged us for normal wear and tear like $16 for replacing working smoke alarm batteries, carpet cleaning when there are no stains on the carpet, general cleaning, and other stuff. DONT RENT FROM THORNBURG & ASSOCIATES. Be warned!!

Impossible to deal with

This woman made our closing a nightmare. She did return phone calls, she did not return emails, she ignored our lawyer. She is a nightmare. Stay away.

i would never rent from them again

me and my old roomate rented from these people from april 2008 until april 2010. where we lived it was pretty rough in shape. we had problems with the septic tank. they would not fix it for any reason. everytime it rained the whole apartment would smell like raw sewage. we also had a time with mold growing inside the apartment because when they put new roof on they put it over the old one. then a tree in the front yard was taking over the roof and rotting it. this place was pretty rough but in our price range. we figured if we moved in they would atleast take care of some if the issue but we were definetly wrong about that one.we put in a deposit on another apartment with them but decided to go with another company. afterwards we recieved a bill form thornburg for mold in the bathroom, toilet backed up, and several other things that werent our responsibility. plus we got charged for the other apartment rent when we didnt even move there. i would advise anybody not to go with this compa
