Updated review: I brought my vintage bicycle frame in for new chrome and polishing. While the polishing was fine, everything was not at all acceptable.



I had to have all the chroming redone. AA-1 plated a part that should not have been plated, causing me unbelievable grief to restore it. In fact, it will never be restored properly. The parts they plated were not prepared properly and still had pits. The chrome on the drive side chain stay was not done far enough to match the former chrome line. The whole job was poorly done.



The fork crown was particularly badly pitted. AA-1 insisted it could not be done any better. I even offered to pay more money - they said it could not be fixed. Well, I just got it back from another plater and it is PERFECT. it looks brand new. Apparently AA-1 either didn't now how to do it properly or didn't care. I wasted $300 on these guys.

My used ‘85 Lincoln Mark VII fuel pump seized. The tank had to be replaced. I purchased new grommets from Lincoln, but when I removed the fuel fill pipe, I discovered it was rusted inside and out. The part was discontinued and no longer available. I searched many wrecking yards, and couldn’t locate another fill pipe. I installed a new gas tank, the in-tank fuel pump (Bosch), vent valve, filters, fuel lines, and new fuel injectors. I couldn’t add rust from this fill pipe to these new components every time I gassed up.



Living near Lake Mead gave me the opportunity to ask local boat repair shops for a local plating company that they used and could recommend. Only one referred me to a plating company. It was out of state due to unsatisfactory results from several Las Vegas companies. We all know that shipping results run the gamut of damaged to lost parts, which I didn’t want to deal with.



I searched the Internet for a local shop and found Bob at A-1 Plating. When I called him, he said he would have to see the part to give me an accurate determination if the part was even worth saving.



When I went to his shop, I was impressed by how clean and organized it is and to my relief, he could restore the part to better than new. It was done in one day and priced right. The quality was to NASA Standards. I am a mechanical engineer (ret.).



I recommend A-1 Plating to anyone requiring restoration of plated parts, even if you have to use the mail. Don’t expect a phone quote because his experience and honesty requires him to see the part. This is a NO “BS” company. In today’s economy, expect shipping to be on you.
