Hastings Mutual Insurance Company is a regional insurance company that operates in five states throughout the Midwest. Its home office is located in Hastings, Mich. Founded as a reaction to two tornadoes that swept through Hastings in the 1880s, the company was established to offer windstorm insurance in Michigan under the name Michigan Mutual Tornado, Cyclone and Windstorm Insurance Company. By 1908, it had grown from 160 policyholders to more than 40,000. In 1959, the company became known by its present name and was reorganized as a general, nonassessable mutual company. Hastings Mutual Insurance Company s product offering includes complete lines of personal, business and farmowners property and casualty insurance policies. The company s insurance policies are written through a network of appointed independent insurance agencies.
