I cannot speak highly enough of Dr. Mark Shekhman and I am indebted to my primary care APRN for recommending him to me. I had been suffering for some time with severe hip pain which increased until I could no longer enjoy my daily walk or climb or descend stairs. I was unable to sleep and dreaded going to bed each night due to pain. I became very discouraged until I had my first consultation with Dr. Shekhman and we discussed my options. After physical therapy and a hip injection failed to give me lasting relief Dr Shekhman and I decided together that surgery was my next step. At this point I was more than ready and I was very grateful to Dr Shekhman for exhausting all other alternatives. His explanation of what was entailed in surgery was clear, comprehensive and encouraging. Dr Shekhman , during surgery,discovered an irregularity in my hip and he was able to correct it and successfully complete my hip replacement.
As of today it is only 22 days since my surgery and i am totally amazed at my progress! I have been able to walk without a cane since day 12 and after 15 days I was ok'd to drive! I now drive myself to physical therapy and I am able to perform a complete excercise routine with ease.
I am 73 years old, not able to take opiates due to allergies and I have come through this post operative period with only Tylenol and an occasional non-opiate pain killer. I have yet to experience pain above a 4 on the 1 to 10 scale! I attribute this to the surgical skill of Dr Shekhman, his support and encouragement of my pre-op excercise regimen involving aquatic therapy and his comprehensive follow-up after surgery. Dr Shekhman is not only a gifted surgeon, but he is also a doctor with a reassuring and compassionate approach; you will leave his office knowing that you have made an excellent choice for your care. I found the perfect doctor and surgeon in Dr Shekhman and I would recommend him to anyone seeking relief from chronic hip pain. Thanks to Dr Shekhman I look forward,once again, to an active lifestyle free from debilitating pain!
