We chose JA Myers to build our off-site Avenel home because of great reviews, how long they have been in business, etc. Before we bought our lot from someone else we had to meet with Ben to come up with rough plans for the inside and outside of our home. We told him that we liked the first floor of the Avenel and the second floor of another plan and Ben told us that we can make a 5th bedroom where we would have a loft and and the 2nd floor family room. We LOVED that idea so much since we didn't want any wasted space and had furniture that would definitely fit in a bigger room. Ben was patient with us and our community with building rules and customized our Avenel wherever we wanted to change things to our liking. Mike, our foreman was awesome.; he went above and beyond with his hard work and dedication to our house. We are VERY IMPRESSED with JA Myers and would recommend them to anyone who wants to build. We are VERY HAPPY in our perfect new home. Thank You So Much!

WORST EXPERIENCE OF OUR LIVES:
We built a house with JA Myers in August 2017 and it was the worst decision of our lives -- a grueling and awful experience. I hope the list of problems we've had (below) serves as a cautionary warning .
CUSTOM WINE FRIDGE DEBACLE:
We paid $750 for a custom wine fridge to be put into our kitchen. But Mr. Myers decided to purchase a cheaper model that did not fit the space AT ALL. He then made us pay additional funds to get a new one put in.
UNNECESSARY CHANGE ORDER FEES:
Every time we wanted to change something from our contract, Mr. Myers charged a $250 “change order fee” to go into a computer and modify a line item.
ROLLS OF CURLEX:
Due to frequent rainstorms, JA Myers laid rolls upon rolls of new curlex across our lawn that we had to pay $600 to remove.
NO APRON PUT IN:
I just paid someone $5,000 to widen our apron because Mr. Myers built us an apron too narrow for any vehicle to back out of without driving over our lawn.
2 CAR-GARAGE NOT BIG ENOUGH FOR 2 CARS
The 2-car garage in our home was was not big enough for two vehicles so we were forced to build a new one for $50,000. I drive a Honda Civic.
CHEAPEST FRONT DOOR YOU COULD FIND:
Our front door swings open every time there’s a bit of wind.
24/7 MONITORING:
The number of errors and botched issues during construction of the home are too numerous to count. My wife had to be here 24/7 to monitor.
PATHETIC GARAGE DOOR:
Mr. Myers built us a flimsy door that was so pathetic, that in the winter it was the same temperature in the garage as it was outside.
TERRIBLE CLEANING
Rather than pay a professional cleaning company Mr. Myers used one of his co-workers wife and three kids to clean the house prior to move in.
NEW DAMAGE TO DRIVEWAY
Mr. Myers construction trucks have done considerable damage to our driveway. But he’s declined (as usual) to do anything about it.

First time New home purchase for my wife and I, it started out very exciting and promising. However we have had issues since settlement, primarily lack of customer service and poor workmanship.
All the issues that we have had, could have been avoided if Myers and contractors they selected would have just taken their time and done the Job that they are clearly capable of doing (by the numerous positive reviews).
That is what makes it so frustrating, we researched and read good things about them, however our experience has been far from good. There is a steep drop off in their attention to you after settlement that is for sure... I can't tell you how many times I heard the phrase "well that's not us that is on the sub-contractor" from Myers people. Um they hand pick the sub-contractors so???
I am not big on righting reviews and I don't want this to be a bashing post, I just wanted to share my experience in hopes it helps someone who is on the fence about choosing a builder. My wife and I are eager to put the "hopefully" last couple issues behind us and just move on. It just really leaves a sour taste in your mouth.

J.A. Meyers was very pleasant to work with and they were very responsive to all our questions. Outstanding experience.

Colleen, Ben, Sandy and the entire team at JA Myers Homes were fabulous to work with. They allowed us to make customizations and changes to our new home that other builders would not - "yes we can" was always their attitude! After walking through and sitting down with other builders in the area, and having friends who bought from those other builders and hearing the troubles they had with their homes, we are glad we bought our second home with JA Myers. Proud to say we have been 12 years (10 years in our first home and now 2 years in our second) with JA Myers Homes.

I will be certain to advise any one interested in moving into our outstanding community, of my experience with your company.

The construction that was done by J A Myers Homes is absolutely exceptional. I don't think I could be happier with anything.

BEWARE! This company will rip you off with any opportunity. Ben Myers is arrogant and very rude. Would never recommend! Would give 0 stars, but that is not an option.

I really liked that a contract with J.A. Myers Homes allowed me to have an unlimited number of windows in my home. They let you have as many as you want, in any size or shape.
