I discovered this bookseller via Yellowpages.com. The name, "Private Reserve Books," evoked mental images that were alluring enough to justify making the 30+ mile round trip. Because of the distance, I checked the listed hours and rang their phone to ensure that the business was in fact open. With today's economy, businesses open at a rate internet records can't keep up with.



Anyhow, I wrote out some quick directions, rounded up a bundle of books for potential trade, and took off. When I arrived to the intersection, however, there was no bookstore in sight! I drove up and down, back and around 3-4 times to no avail. Finally, I called the number again since it was still in my phone under the recent call list. A woman answered (last time it had been a man), simply with a "Hello?"

Caught off guard, I asked, "Is this the bookstore?"

The woman responded with, "Oh, he's not in right now. Can I have him call you back later?"

Caught even more off guard, I asked, "Where are you located? I'd like to stop by and check out the books."

To that, the lady said something like, "He doesn't have a storefront. This is a residence. Let me take down your number so he can call you when he returns."

Intimidated, I mumbled something about currently being in the area, but having to leave town within the hour.



So that was my experience. I'm not looking to bad-mouth anybody, but I nearly ran out of gas driving around in search of a bookseller with a commercial storefront. The listing for this "business" suggests that it's a conventional store (showing regular hours of operation, a phone number, and a company name) but it's everything but! If you plan to do business with this person, I suggest you call the number and make an appointment!
