Giorgio Todisco grew up in the kitchen. Watching his mother and grandmother prepare food for friends and family in Bergamo, Italy set him on the path that led him to Trattoria Giorgio. After studying at culinary school in San Pellegrino and cooking in restaurants all over the world, he decided to bring the Italian cuisine he grew up with to Greenville. Since then we've been serving Giorgio's recipes in our Main Street trattoria with all the simplicity, romance, and tradition of the food he's always loved.Giorgio Todisco grew up in the kitchen. What a snooty place! This has ...

What a snooty place! This has got to be the only pretentious place in Greenville. My wife and I came to Greenville for the weekend from Atlanta for a romantic getaway. We saw this restaurant on the first night here and walked in for dinner. They turned us away because we didn’t have a reservation. The little 10 table restaurant was half-full, but still…no reservation, no dinner. Regardless, we decided to make our reservation for the following night and come back (mistake). After coming back for dinner the next night, I can say definitively that I will never go back as long as I live.

We should have walked out as the waiter was going over the specials and looked down his nose at us and demanded that I remove my hat. Seriously? There is nothing posted anywhere about a dress code or removing “head coverings”, and you’re going to demand that I remove my hat? First, your restaurant is sandwiched between a burger joint and a sports bar in a college town. More importantly, the “gentleman” sitting at the next table over was wearing camo pants and a t-shirt. Why not demand that he take off his pants?! If not for my wife’s desire to continue with dinner, I would have walked out. After eating the fare, I wish we had.

I had the lamb which ended up chewy with lots of fat and connective tissue. Yuk. And what was the lamb served on? A bed of rice? Potatoes? No…a bed of bagged salad! I can’t make this up! It was literally served on top of a bed of obvious salad mix. Next to that was grilled vegetables that were so over-cooked and mushy that they barely held their shape. My wife’s said her pasta was ok, but it’s hard to screw up pasta. Just so no one thinks that I’m slamming the food over the service, I can say that the chocolate mousse was very good. Unfortunately, it’s not a desert place…it’s an Italian restaurant.

Bottom line - if you want to feel “looked down on” and over-pay for sub-par food, then come on down to Trattoria Giorgio. But if you are looking for a nice night out and good food, please look somewhere else.
